Kirby Yocum, 24, of Griffin, Ga., was in the rear seat, not wearing a seatbelt, when the driver of the Toyota Land Rover lost control after a sharp curve on state Highway 95, the Utah Highway Patrol said. When the driver tried to regain control, the vehicle flipped and landed on its roof shortly before 4 a.m. in San Juan County. Two of the four people were ejected. Yocum was a seasonal worker who collected fees at Halls Crossing, part of the National Park Service's Glen Canyon Recreation Area. "Kirby's dream was to be a park ranger," Superintendent Kitty Roberts said in a statement. The others worked for a private concessionaire at the park, Glen Canyon spokesman Kevin Schneider said. They are Romona Pop, 23, and Daniella Moca, 22, both from Romania, and Reed Arthur, 28, of West Valley City, Utah. Pop, who was driving, was transported to a Denver hospital, said Schneider, who described her injuries as serious. Moca and Arthur had injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Speed and fatigue may have been factors in the rollover, but not alcohol, according to the highway patrol. Toddler run over by own mother SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) - A woman backing out of the driveway struck and killed her 14-month-old daughter who had dashed behind the vehicle, police said, "The mom had no idea," Springville police Lt. Dave Caron said. Charges likely won't be filed against the mother, whose identity was not released. The girl was taken to a hospital where she died. There have been at least two other similar accidents in Utah County this year. In May, a 21-month-old girl from Eagle Mountain was killed after a family member hit her while back- ing out of a driveway. On April 6, a 2-year-old Lindon boy was killed when his mother pulled into the driveway with a sport-utility vehicle. "They are so hard and so tragic," Caron said. "You just have to be so careful. Little children that age just don't understand." OSLO, Norway (AP) - Two years after masked gunmen grabbed national artistic treasures in front of stunned visitors at an Oslo museum, police announced Thursday they recovered the Edvard Munch masterpieces "The Scream" and "Madonna." Art lovers had feared the priceless paintings were gone for good. Norwegian news media spent the months speculating about the works' fate _ whether they had been burned to escape the police hunt, sold to a wealthy collector for private viewing or suffered harm in their hiding place. "I saw the paintings myself today, and there was far from the damage that could have been feared," said Iver Stensrud, the police inspec- tor who headed the investigation since the paintings were taken by masked gunmen who raided the Munch Museum on Aug. 22, 2004. Experts from the Munch Museum confirmed late Thursday that the paintings, still shielded from the public and the news media, were the real thing. Norwegians were shocked when two or three thieves black masks entered the museum and threatened an employee with a handgun, then wrenched the two paintings off the wall and fled. Many museumgoers panicked, thinking they were being attacked by terrorists. Many people initially thought the paintings might be offered for ransom. Art experts said it would be nearly impossible to sell such famous pieces of art, although some people speculated an immensely rich, unscrupulous art lover might be a willing buyer. Then at a trial this year for three men charged with minor roles in the heist, prosecutors suggested the robbery was pulled off to distract police from the hunt for a gang behind a commando-style bank robbery four months earlier that killed a police officer. Prosecutor Terje Nyboe called the theft "an attack on Norwegian culture and Norwegian history." The two paintings were on a list released by the FBI last fall compiling the top 10 art thefts around the globe.
