Show an interesting letter from eureka boy now in france the reporter editor has ji biot A re calved the following letter from frank bacon now located at tours france the letter being written on august ath I 1 1 I 1 have been intending tor for some time to write you again and let you know how I 1 was getting along over here but of late have been so busy that I 1 have not had time to write only what I 1 have been writing to my folks I 1 yon Youl will ivill note that I 1 am able to tell you just what part of france I 1 am in at present and I 1 expect to stay here for sometime or at least in this vicinity tours is a very large place corn com pared with the other places places I 1 have bay been in since coming to prance france an and d Is noted for a great battle that ciok k place near here a long long time ago there are also very many in te resting places to visit here and I 1 have been spending what spare time I 1 have had taking in all I 1 can while I 1 am over here i we are located mahout a mile and a halt half from town and we are about that far from the office where we are working so you can see we get plenty of hiking when we go glo to i either place just now we are walking to and from work three times a day which means we cover a distance of about seven or eight miles besides work ing ten and a halt half hours we have been working at night for a counie coulle of weeks but we are get ting caught up with our work now and we expect to be finished with the night work this week we have very little to complain about because some ot of the other boys are having things a great deal harder barder than we are and they no doubt put in more hours than we do it very much rest today I 1 thought of arthur van when I 1 passed the files and thought I 1 would look his card up I 1 and get his address and write him a letter and when I 1 found his card I 1 also found that be he we killed in action on the ot of last month and I 1 don t remember when I 1 had anything strike me as that did I 1 I 1 understand that three of the boys from eureka have been killed in action the other two being the lockhart brothers the only eureka boy I 1 have seen since I 1 have been over here is flit clif lord Christo pherson arid I 1 get to see him nearly evera ever sunday and we vile talk over the old times in eureka I 1 have been hea ing from john franke very often but I 1 never hae been able to see him yet I 1 understand several of the b ba 3 that have been in training at camp lewis are over here and I 1 air roin to try and see at I 1 can locate some of them near here one of the boys that left nephi the same time as art haynes and I 1 left was wounded not long ago but I 1 understand it was not very bad he was a boy from idaho and had been working at the standard walen he was drafted I 1 have not received the reporter from home tor for the last two months and I 1 have been lost without it tor for it always gives so much news of what is going on at home the cause of not getting papers Is on ac count of the delay in the mall mail I 1 can t think of anything else to write rite about only tell everyone that I 1 am well and I 1 want to be kemem bared to everyone at home wishing you all a lot of good in luck an and d good wishes I 1 remain yours vours FRANK BACON central records office A G D am E F A P 0 france |
