Show B transacted at the I 1 recent meeting of council mayor church councilmen bun dun nell freckleton richen and firth were present at the ot of the council held on friday eve evening n ing of last week at which time consider able routine business was transact ed there was the regular budget of claims which were read by re corder stack then audited and or dered paid I 1 the payment ot of the bills against the city brought up the question of finances and information supplied by the tre treasurer surer and recorder showed that the city s funds were at low ebb in order to meet the expenses of carrying on the city government during the months of september and O october tober and while awaiting the col ot of taxes for 1918 the mayor wis w ts authorized to negotiate a loan the he sum of 2000 was borrowed rom the local bank and this should be sufficient to carry the city until he tax money or a part of it la is cald dald over the city physician dr L B la I 1 e reported renor ted the removal of one of the old buildings on lower main street which for a number of years has been nothing more than an un sanitary fire trap he also becom mended the removal of other build ings which add nothing to the beau ty of the camp and which are fast going tal ruin this matter was re feared to the city attorney as it ap pears that condemnation proceed ings will be necessary the matter of collecting the mon ey due the city on sidewalk and sew er taxes all of which is many years past due was up tor for discussion and the city treasurer was authorized and instructed to proceed with this matter first securing the aid of he city attorney from the records of the city it appears that quite a num of property owners have simply ig nored all previous requests tor for pay ment and at this time there Is a large sum of money outstanding borup reported to the council that he had caused an inspection of the city water tanks to be made by an expert and that these tanks had been found to be in very satisfactory condition city physician laker reported one case of diphtheria under quarantine during the past month aside from ahls there were no cases of oua ous diseases sexton A N wallace had a clean record tor for the month not a single burial taking place at the city aeme tery justice kryger came to bat eight times during august an and d scored six hits two out of the eight cases being dismissed in tines fines were col lecter this including a fine of 60 50 which was levied against one of the local business men for selling elder cider which contained alcohol enough to bring it under the prohibition law mrs viertel the city treasurer submitted a report which showed that on august 1st the city had a cash balance of 1171 53 disburse ments tor for the month overbalancing the receipts and leaving the city but 07 on the first of depte september aber the receipts included the following collections water 05 city well 11 25 general lice aises water deposits 54 city scales 3 40 fines water supplies 72 20 poll taxes 8 dog taxes 4 pound 24 |
