Oh, yeah. Spring Break, baby. And this year, I'm getting out of here. I've bought my ticket, and I'm heading off to the lovely clear waters and soft sands of Cancun, and I'm beyond stoked. Cancun is one of the top Spring Break destinations for college students, alongside such locations as Daytona Beach, Miami and Las Vegas, but I'm not exactly looking to end up on an episode of "Girls Gone Wild!" The only thing I really want to do is lie on the beach, soak up some glorious rays and read. So for those who, like me, prefer to spend the week off immersed in some fantastic literature instead of dancing on top of tables, here's what I'll have my nose in next week. No person, without expressed permission of The Chronicle, may take more than one copy of any Chronicle issue. but with books Managing Editor I. Life of Pi I'm not quite sure how I've actually made it this far in my life without reading this one. It's got everything that a good beach book should have (or so I'm told): a good, illustrative narrative, evocative language and a tiger named Richard Parker. It's probably going to be the heaviest and most canonical book I'll devour this break, so I'll have to remember the sunscreen before I settle down with Life of Pi. 2. Code Name Verity I'm usually not a fan of war books, or of books that make me cry, but I'm told that I'm going to love this one. It's a specific niche of historical fiction — women in World War II — which is one that doesn't often show up in literature. And, as my dear friend Emily puts it, "It's a beautiful survey of friendship and love." Any book with that tagline attached to it (and from such a reputable source) is bound to be good. I just have to pack my tissue box alongside my beach towel. 3. Jurassic Park Because dinosaurs. 4. Possible Side Effects When this book was described to me, I was a little leery. It's a memoir composed of a collection of essays, all of which detail Augusten Burroughs' horrible life. Depressing, right? But, according to my recommender, the book is incredible because Burroughs takes horrific moments of his life and twists them into humorous anecdotes. Of all the books on this list, I'm most excited for this one. Hopefully I won't spill my drink laughing. 5. The Tao of Travel I've been steadily plodding through this one for quite some time, mostly because I can only read about two or three pages before I'm instantly overcome with a powerful case of wanderlust. Somehow, I have this inkling that it might be easier to read about traveling all around the world from a place that isn't my couch in my apartment or a stolen minute on a park bench outside of the Union. I'm just looking forward to enjoying this book, because I've been waiting a long, long time for the perfect opportunity to dive in. I have no doubt there will be crazy nights out. I'm sure there will be sights seen and stories told about the shenanigans that comprise my last Spring Break in college. But (and here I push my glasses onto my nose in traditional nerd fashion) not before I finish my reading list. n.harris@chronicle.utah.edu Find us on Facebook: facebook.com/TheChrony Follow us on Twitter: .dailyutahchronicle. co @TheChrony Ight New fork ginteol ACROSS 52 Part of a bridle 1 Part of una casa 55 Harem wear 5 Totally disgusted 59 his conflict 10 Compressed pic, of a sort 14 16 Brewery fixture 17 Spa wear 18 See 22-Down 19 64 Hospital sticker 66 country Loaded with 24 Title for a J.D. substance holder 67 68 69 Clandestine sort 32 Remove, as a corsage 34 Trigram on rotary phones 37 A hoops great and his league 40 70 42 43 Baja resort area 44 A comic and his Kobe cash 48 Cassette half 49 Soup alternative 51 Brian who's a Final part of Away from the Like candy corn's 72 Woman's golf 6 No. 0129 7 8 9 O 23 28 34 29 30 garment 73 31 DOWN 2 Whac(carnival game) 3 Benghazi's land 4 Bikini atoll trials, informally 5 Word after "take" II 48 it 9 32 7 49 9 Exerters of 52 53 54 60 10 W.C.
