"We just never lost our composure," Launiere said. "We just kept plugging away. We just kept fighting and battling all night." The Utes were led by their talented corps of upperclassmen. Senior Kate Robison led Utah with 17 kills. Junior Lori Baird chipped in 16 kills. Junior Kathryn Haynie added 15 kills and senior Whitney Webb contributed 12 kills and eight blocks. Senior libero Connie Dangerfield led the defensive charge with 19 digs. The outcome was all the more sweet considering that Colorado State dispensed of the then-No. 9 Utes in last year's MWC tournament, 3-2. The Rams put an end to Utah's 25-match winning streak last year and cost the Utes' an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, forcing the Utes to settle for a lower at-large bid. Defeating Colorado State on Friday was just what the Utes needed to get back on track, as it will likely infuse the struggling team with some muchneeded confidence. It also turned the trend of late-game let downs that have been a major part of the Utes' struggles this season. "We really needed this," Launiere said. "We wanted it and went out and got it." The Utes will have a brief reprieve from their conference schedule on Tuesday when they face Weber State at 7 p.m. on Crimson Court. n.dicou@ chronicle.utah.edu £ Students, facuCtiy & staff *Enrollments for the 2006-2007 school season expire September 30,2007 *Excludes alcohol, tobacco, prescriptions, fuel, postage stamps, money orders and other items prohibited by law.
