Show LICENSE 1 IS P H 0 1 E ST E 0 11 on friday evening of last week the regular meeting of the city coun ell was held with mayor church and councilmen fields bunnell and freckleton eton present councilmen airth t irth and richen were absent following the reading of the min utes of the previous meeting pass ing on bills against the city and oth er routine work a communication was read from proprietors of soft drink establishments protesting a the new ordinance which went into effect on the first of the present month and which has greatly increase ed the amount which these business men must pay for the privilege of do ing business the communication called attention to the tact fact that the amount asked is much higher than is being collected in some of the other towns of the state and informed the council that the new ordinance will work a hardship on all and perhaps put some out of business the betl tion asked that the matter be re opened and the ordinance revised reducing the amount of the license on soft drink establishments and pool halls I 1 hose signing the paper were schramm johnson co jag jas crooks eureka candy co smith s pool hall raymer pharmacy church mitch ell M F burson gatley bros and sam hanson on motion the matter was referred to the committee on city licenses marshal henriod was instructed to remove the grizzley in the water course near the reporter office the street committee waa was also authorized authorize di 1 to make certain needed repairs to I 1 the streets of the camp I 1 mayor church appointed james creighton as city marshal and W H bromley as justice of the peace but both appointments failed of confirma tion councilman freckleton eton voted to conf confirm irm the mayor mayors s appointments appointment but councilmen bunnell and fields voted against them mrs viertel the treasurer sub bitted a report which was bially as follows balance april 1st 1 61 disbursements for the month 1 05 collections 1 42 leaving a balance ot of 1 98 on may 1st collections were from the following sources water 92 meter deposits 15 gener al licenses 39 city scales 2 water supplies 30 20 poll tax 4 dog tax 2 tines fines recorder J D stack reported col sections of 1 42 and disburse ments of 1 05 marshal henriod reported the ex pend iture ture of 25 tor for street and sanitary work justice kryger had but one case tor for april but he made the most of his opportunity and gathered in sexton wallace reported three burials tor for the month |
