The CJCs are child-friendly, home-like facilities that serve children who have been physically or sexually abused. The centers are a comforting place where children can be interviewed regarding the alleged abuse. The CJCs are located in many counties EY BT ENE ER POG nas an OO wns 654-9979 | 4} a . 1 4 i Pia Tite aia regen s: 4 f ts 3 care of &i oS take f and sup- f ~ a to abused children Instead of uldple agencies interview- ing a young victim of abuse in different locations, a CJC allows agencies to work together to coordinate interviews in one location, explained Pam Cone, chairwoman of the CJC’s Friends Committee, the fundraising arm of the advisory board. “This center brings all the disciplines together for one interview instead of many,” explairied Cone. “This is something that Summit and Wasatch counties need so desperately.” The goal of the CJCs is to increase the effectiveness of protecting children, to physical and sexual abuse.” Utah’s CJC program is run with private ‘and public funding. The burden lies with the community to come up with the money to acquire a place, usually an older home, for the center. Once a com- munity has acquired a facility and funded all of the associated start-up costs, funds from the Utah Legislature and federal money cover the operational costs. “The local community really needs to get together and support this,” said Mary T.
