Meyer, president owner - founder of the Salt Lake Golden professional Eagles hockey team, is a young business executive whose career would have to be described as somewhat phenomenal. Born June 14, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wis., of immigrant Swiss parents, Dan moved with his family at an early age to San Diego, Calif., and graduated from high school there, serving as student body president. After a stint in the U.S. Army during World War II in which he obtained the rank of captain e after having served in the Islands, Meyer entered San Diego State College and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in just two years. While attending college, he was a free lance photpgraher with assignments for Life, National Geographic, 20th Century Fox, Cole of California, King Syndicate and others. He also found time to serve as class president and headed the council of organizations and interfraternity council. In 1949 he entered the Hastings College of Law, University of California. He obtained his law degree in 1952 from the San Francisco Law School. Meyer was an employe of Standard Oil Co. of California from 1951 through 1960, serving first as a legal analyst and landman in San Francisco, and then coming to Salt Lake City in -- L "f c? Several interests applied for a franchise in the professional Western Hockey League, but in late spring of 1968, it appeared that the owners committee of the WHL was quite disenchanted with the applications submitted and Salt Lakes chances were practically nil. Enter Daniel H. Meyer. This enthusiastic Salt Laker whose primary business interests are in the fields of oil and mining, on a trip to San Diego to introcandidate duce Richard M. Nixon, discovered his city was going to lose its chance for a pro hockey franchise. Returning home in late May, Meyer immediately began writing daily to each of the WHL owners, enclosing brochures and other materials emphasizing the many assets Salt Lake could provide to the Western Hockey League.
