Show DESERET g 10, Wednesday, September NEWS, 1969 College: Start On Right Foot By ELIZABETH L. POST Of The Emily Post Institute In the next few weks, thousands of young people will be leaving the familiar security of home for the heady and sometimes frigntemng freedom of college life. The news is so full of stories of student revolts and campus rebellions that many people of my generation have given up hope that anything good can come from a college education. I do not agree with them. Fortunately, I am convinced that the great majority of young people care more than ever about their education and about their relationships with other people. Knowing how to get along with those around you in just as important in the revitalized atmosphere of today3 campus as it ever was years ago. Here are some suggestions that may help insure a happier and smoother life for your college years. BE CONSIDERATE The facilities of the dormitory are yours, but theyre also your roommates. Treat her with the respect you would show any older person, but also with friendliness. Dropping into her apartment now and then with a few friends for a chat is a gesture that takes little time, but will be appreciated for its thoughtfulness. Have tolerance for opinions of others.
