Show Relief Society Calls 11 To Serve On Board Eleven new members have been named to the Relief Society General Board. In the group of new board members are wives of former mission presidents, women who have served as ward and stake Relief Society presidents, former member of the Primary General Board and a member of the Tabernacle Choir. The majority of the women reside in Salt Lake City, with five members of either the Monument Park or Monument Park West stakes. Amy Y. Valentine Anna J. Skidmore Named were Helen Gygi Lach, Orlene J. Poulsen, Johna Mary de St. Jeor, Beverly Jensen Pond, Marian Louise Richards Boyer, Amy Young Valentine, Marjorie Merrill Reeve, Aline Rawson Pettit, Anna Jean Bullock Skidmore, Ada Jones Jones and Inez Tolman Waldron. John Edward Lach and a member of Monument Park 11th Ward. She has served in Relief Society presidencies for six years and has been a member of the Tabernacle Choir for 11 years. Mrs. Poulsen, married to George W. Poulsen Jr., is a member of Monument Park Third Ward. She is stake Relief Society President and international president of Lambda Delta Sigma. She served with her husband when he was president of the Hawaii Mis1963-196- 6. Miss Johna Mary de St. Jeor, Holladay 8th Ward, has served in both the Mexico Stake and Uruguary Mission in MIA and Relief Society leadership positions. She speaks fluent Spanish, attended the University of Mexico and has served as an interpreter. Mrs. Pond, wife of Farrell Smith Pond, is a member of the Monument Park 13th Ward. She has taught both the social science and theology classes in Relief Society and served as president of Monument Park 12th Ward Relief Society, 1958-196- 4. Mrs. Boyer, daughter of Elder LeGrand Richards of the Council of Twelve, is married to Harold R. Boyer. The Boyers are members of the Monument Park Ward. Mrs. Boyer was serving as Monument Park Stake Relief Society president when called to the general board. Orlene J. Poulsen Mrs. Valentine, wife of the late Lee B. Valentine, former mission president of the Argentine Mission, is a member of the Provo 13th Ward. Mrs. Valentine has been serving as Relief Society president of the BYU 7th Stake for the past two years. She is a Spanish teacher at BYU. Mrs. Reeve, wife of Wayne L. Reeve, is a member of the Kansas City 1st Ward. She has taught released time seminary for eight years and has been a Inez T. Waldron Helen G. Lach 10 CHURCH WEEK ENDING AUGUST 16, 1969 I. Robert Cannon L. Backman Two Men Recalled To YMMIA Board Mrs. Lach is married to sion, George ward and stake Relief Society president. Mrs. Pettit, Monument Park 7th Ward, is the wife of Lynn A. Pettit. She served on the Primary General Board from 1965 to 1966. Mrs. Pettit has taught most of the Relief Society classes and has served in the Monument Park Relief Society for three years. Mrs. Skidmore, 20th Ward, Logan, Utah is married to Charles Jay Skidmore. She served as director of the Singing Mothers for 13 years and has directed the 20th Ward choir for six years. Mrs. Skidmore has taught private vocal and piano lessons for many years The Young Mens Mutual Improvement Association named two members to the YMMIA General Board. Appointed were George I. Cannon, recently released as mission president of Central British Mission, and Robert L. Backman, former president of Northwestern States Mission. . Mr. Cannon served on the YMMIA General Board for 12 years before his call as bishop of the Parleys 6th Ward, Parleys (Utah) Stake in 1963. He also has served in ward and stake positions in the YMMIA. He is a former president of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and was president of Chartered Life Underwriters when called as mission president. Mr. Cannon was assistant vice president of Beneficial Life Insurance Co. before his mission. He is married to the former Isabel Hales of Lake City. Salt Mr. Backman, who also previously served on the YMMIA board, was released July 1 as a mission president When called as mission president, Mr. Backman was serving as first counselor in the Parleys Stake Presidency. Mr. Backman is a Salt Lake attorney. He is a past president of Utah Land Title Association and Utah Executives Association. the He married Virginia Pickett of Richfield, Utah, and they have seven daughters. He and his family were chosen Utah Family in 1957. an and teaches vocal instruction at the Utah State iversity part time. Un- Mrs. Jones is a member of the Chandler, Ariz. 2nd Ward and is married to Archie Lavar Jones. She has served in Primary, YWMIA and Relief Society presidencies. She also served as president of the Mesa Stake Relief Society. Mrs. Waldron is a member of the North Logan 2nd Ward and married to Eldred Logan Waldron. She served as Hawaii Mission Relief Society president from 1942 to 1944. She has directed the Mt. Logan Stake Singing Mothers for several years. The new members are being given temporary board assignments until Relief Society Conference in October when all general board assignments will be reviewed, according to Relief Society president Mrs. Belle S. Spafford. |
