Show 4 DESERET NEWS, Wednesday, August 13, 1969 1 jankers Meet Slated A number of intermountain records are expected to be rewritten at the seventh an- nual Country Club Swimming League Conference championships to be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Fort Dtfliglas Country Club. !Ted Whitney, president of th said that conference, about 300 swimmers from six tp 37 years of age will compete In the swimming and diving events for the eight clubs lithe conference. 2Some of the intermountain areas best swimmers will he competing. Among them are T&n Neville of the Foit Douglas dub who recently placed second in the Olympic Pentathlon tryouts in Texas; Ctmiy Bechtold, Cottonwood Club, who won two gold med-a- t recently In the area Junior Olympics at Provo; and Richard Neville, winner, of five goSJ medals in the area junior Olympics. Hie schedule calls for preliminary swimming events beginning at 9 a.m. on both djysf diving beginning at 3 pan. both days, and the final swimming events beginning at 5,tm. each day. "Clubs competing will include Fort Dougfes, Cotton-woi- d Club, Crestwood Swim-mlp- g Club, Willow Creek Country dub, Salt Lake Tennis! dub, Northcrest Swimming dub, Ogden Golf and Country dub and the Salt Like Country dub. JOonnell Spencer, set the local amateur course record for nine holes with a fine 33 ajjjl the following day Van Reed Madsen shot the first e on the tough number five hole. A WLl hifle-in-on- aTie hole-in-on- e was n DREASI5 & re- ceded on the 169 yard three-P!hole. Madsen used a six iron. It was witnessed by dub PtfT Wayne Andersen, Blaine Breinholt and Mike Salisbury. Meanwhile Mr. Andersen said tfie field of entrants is increasing each day for the Cove IView Amateur. Madsen and Spencer are the only local golfers who will compete in the championship flight, although many holding the lowest handicaps at Richfield will enter the B and C flights. JIC Andersen said the tourney is the final warmup for the Utah Amatpur and the Q$e View course is a good teet of golf skill. Greens p holding better than ever but star require precision iron shots and expert putting skill. Included in the championship flight will he 0 to eight handicappers. The A Flight will include those nine to 14. the B Flight and the C flight 20 and over. Entry fees for the tournament have been set at $15 to include a practise round at thfe Richfield course the previ- 0us day on Friday, August 15. Entry deadline is Thursday night, August 14.
