Show hi n sj Pe Irk Aw s:Ish ut safe ...., int ANTELOPE ISLAND Wind-swewaves have again caused Hooding of the Syracuse Road leading to the new Great Salt Lake State Park on but little Antelope Island, damage resulted, according to Harold Tippets, associate director of the Utah ?ark and Hecrelition Department. A. Young Construction Co. began moving heavy eggipmerit onto the road Monday and will start work on improving and ra i si ng the road. The project, to last about 60 days. is being done at a cost of $146,875. Corstruction crews will raise the road bed up to three feet and place a heavy protection of rip rap along the sides to prevent further washouts, Tippetts said. Earlier this string more than 3,000 feet ot road were damaged, some washed away by windswept waves and rising water. Easter Sunday also was "washed out" by inclement weather. Park officials had estimated more than 10,000 visitors to the island park had the weather been favorable. He said water 6 to 12 inches deep washed onto the road but rip rap plficed along the road side in recent weeks prevented serious damage. "Plans are stll to have the park open on weekends until Memorial Day. weather ing," Tippetts said. "However, in the event of a prolonged wet spell this week or wind and storm over the weekend, we could be forced to close the park and road." Tippetts explained that L. per-mi- tt :,, .;:. r I 1111111111111111111111111 place Kraft who Area Briefs re- - recently signed.
