Show Wednesday March 23 1991 THE RICHFIELD REAPER 9 A Places To Exercise Are Plentiful In Richfield NSHS Featured In National Magazine By Mindy Ogden In previous articles I have expressed the importance of total wellness and how what we eat is a major factor to our health I also stressed the importance of our example as adults to children in relation to good health Last week's article manifested the importance of exercise Through these articles I hope to promote total wellness I am going to convince you this week that the Richfield area is one of the best places in the world to exercise I will also discuss some of the benefits of a good exercise program and why it's so important to be committed Some people would have you believe that all exercise does is make you sweaty mess up your hair take time out of your day and produce a pile of dirty laundry All these people are doing is making Even though I still participate in these sports I realized I needed to change my chief exercise activity This is the very reason why we are so lucky to live in this area We have a variety of activities to choose from When I told my grandpa Homer Ogden that I was writing this article on exercise he got excited He told me of the things he participates in to stay physically fit He enjoys riding his exercise bike and going for walks My brother Jon is a swimmer so he enjoys spending long hours at the city pool Like I mentioned before it really depends on what you enjoy doing the most Exercise should be something you want to do not something you have to do It should be fun When I come home for the weekends and summers I enjoy spending a lot of time at Sunrise Fitness Center They feature exercise equipment free weight area all types of exercise machines racquet-bacourts outdoor swimming aerobics six days a week and now program they have a weight-los- s sponsored by the National Health Club Association So if any of ll these activities have caught your at- tention check out Sunrise Fitness Center You'll love it The Richfield City Pool is another popular fitness attraction where people including myself love to swim laps participate in water aerobics and play water volleyball along with water basketball What better way is there to stay cool and exercise at the same time Living in Provo for two years I have come to appreciate the clean air in our community And now spring is here What a great time of year to walk job or run with a friend Oh and don't forget the beautiful hikes available up in the red hills Many might remember the article Dennis Larson wrote last fall on the wonderful hikes we have in our area Also there are now many mountain bike trails people are trying around our valley We Sega is a private foundation encouraging the use of technology as an enhancement of the learning environment Local education leaders will determine the most effective use of the grant recognition A thumbnail sketch of the reschool says "A form effort has transformed this rural school for 361 into an energized classes and inplace w ith mixed-ag- e teams The teacher terdisciplinary changes have boosted test scores earned students statewide awards and improved the graduation rate to 96 percent" In introducing the winning schools Redbook's project director points out that drugs violence low test scores and high dropout rates are not the story of American education rather the panel of educators who made the selections "found much to celebrate" "Year after year" the article concludes "we’ve seen that it’s a teacher principal or parent volun- Editors engaged a panel of ten education experts to select the best 134 high schools and 11 teachers and principals parents teer who's critical to a school's who Working Out Mindy Ogden second from left participates in Center The facility is one of several in the an aerobic workout at the Sunrise Fitness area offering exercise opportunities can take advantage of the beauty (Mindy Ogden is the current this spring with her associate of that surrounds us and get a good workout all at once Richfield has a gorgeous golf course a wonderful new rubber track tennis courts and many other activities that people can choose from for their exercise programs Thirty minutes of combined activity can also be relatively easy to accomplish A few trips up the stairs walking from store to store a few minutes of yard work housework g or could be your ticket to a longer healthier life as well as a groomed yard neat home and clear sidewalks So why do people like myself rave about exercise? Maybe because we know that a good exercise program can help prolong life reduce the risk of heart disease lower blood cholesterol reduce weight and snow-shovelin- stress levels improve self-imag- e and tone and strengthen muscles and improve flexibility Or maybe because we know exercise is a fun way to get fit and meet other people There are a lot of good reasons to exercise Combined with other health lifestyle habits exercise can make you look and feel your very best So we know the benefits of exercise and we know what our community has to offer Now we have to become committed If we aren't committed and it's raining we say "I won’t go out today" But we know we're committed when we grab our rain gear and continue our exercise programs Have you ever looked for someone's phone number in the wrong city? It drives you crazy Well no matter how hard you look for health without exercise you won't find it So choose the exercise that's best for you and get started Like I mentioned in last week's article I will be home from school at the end of April and plan to start the seminars and low-fa- t cooking demonstrations then I also plan to make myself available to talk to school classes about my ideas on total wellness in May This will include drug abuse eating the right kinds of foods exercising and taking charge of our own health Please mention my plans to your children's teachers and line this up with my parents I can't wait to get started Miss Richfield and will graduate from Utah Valley State College science degree She continues her education in lifestyle management) RS Party Junior Prom Is Big Draw Thursday Kiesel Evelyn Julie Cowley 529-735- The Relief Society birthday party will be March 24 at the Venice LDS Ward at 7 pm All ladies in 9 There was a big turnout at the North Sevier High School junior prom where the colors were purple low n and their husbands arc invited The LDS Young Women and Young Men and their parents attended a Special Standards Night at and black the Richfield Stake Center Henderson Ncv Dennis came to Mass meetings will be held March 28 at 7 pm Republicans will meet at the Clark Wall home and Democrats will meet at the Kenneth Cupp home Mr and Mrs Brent Cowley at- tend the junior prom with his cousin Allen Kiesel Redmond w ho is a junior Visiting Evelyn Kiesel were and Brady Kiesel Dennis at- Mr and Mrs Fay Roberts were visited by Karylin Riggs and Sharlccn Robinson both Salt Lake City who came to attend the junior prom of Shicla Bamstitcr who lives with her grandparents the Fay Roberts and is a daughter of Sharlccn Robinson Visiting Mrs Virgie Nielsen were Mr and Mrs Waydc Sorensen and Stephen and Christie Sorensen all West Valley City Mr and Mrs Shaun Jensen were visited by Lloyd Gold Murray tended the LDS missionary farewell testimonial in Koosharcm for Lindy Torgcrson Mr and Mrs Roger Farnsworth Bountiful visited her parents Mr and Mrs Gary Cowley and her Mr and brother and sister-in-laMrs Kendall Cowley Jorja Muir and daughters Emily and Nancy spent the weekend in Elko Ncv The Mcrric Miss LDS Primary class held its daddydaughter party at the church Lisa Anderson is the adviser w Visiting Ruby Peterson were Mr and Mrs Josef Martin Las Vegas Mr and Mrs Ric Pingrcc and family Sandy Kurt Crane Magna and Mr and Mrs Larry Anderson and family West Valley City came for an early celebration of JB Crane's birthday which was March Stephanie Cowley Jay Davis Toni Davis and Greg Camp attended the State FFA Convention in Cedar City Stephanie Jay and Toni were on the parliamentary procedure team and Greg did prepared speaking Responsible rr Students Are Rewarded — MONROE J Monroe Elementary PTA held its monthly Salina Neivs Venice News 15 suc- cess" "represent the energy dedication and health-relate- d I played became fewer Sega of America Inc is the parent company of the Sega Youth Education and Health Foundation which is making the cash award issue Nearly 400 schools across the country were nominated for excuses for not being active One excuse we don't have living in this valley is "There's no place to go to exercise" There are liter- ally thousands of activities that people can engage in right here in Sevier Valley Remember fitness is a lifetime endeavor so maybe as you get older the activities you choose will change I know mine have I learned the importance of exercise in high school Participating in sports my coaches set the example of true fitness I will be forever in debt to them for this very thing But as I got to college the conveniences of the sports innovation that change kids' lives" SALINA — North Sevier High School in Salina was designated a w inner in Redbook magazine's third annual America's Best Schools project and represents Utah in the "Best of the States" list in the April 1994 Positive Action w ith March assembly for the theme "I Can Be a Responsible Student" Shcrolyn guest speaker gave a reading of "Horton Hatches the Egg" Christensen The children learned the importance of being responsible students Awards were given to the follow ing students: Kindergarten -
