Pat Parclli Horsemanship Clinic Horseshoe Pitchers Schedule As I See It HJeett's misuses By Bert Lowry Hey Bruce it was good to hear from you again Ole Abner Bodinc said that he thought that you should be nominated as president of my fan club I assured him of two things: number one is that your last name isn't Carter even if you do sound a lot like Dick The other was that even though you seem to follow my column closely and dote on its every word you probably don’t view yourself as one of my fans I do want to tell you that I really did appreciate your last letter to the editor It’s not often that I gel my column analyzed in such detail and then essentially reprinted in us entirety However you did have a few glitches in it For one thing I'm not into the "upholstering" agenda but you do have a good point about taking a hide around to the schools I just usually take the skulls so they can see the gaping eye sockets the holes where the blood vessels go the nasal and auditory channels and the differences and similarities in the teeth of the animals they know 1 usually talk about camassial shear and molars etc so they can get an idea of the wide range of we have around us However you may feel as those who early day believed that doing an autopsy on a dead person in order to learn about the human body was macabre so doctors trying to learn about the body had to do so in secret You are also right that today's taxidermists provide an important step in between photos or slides and the zoo And they ARE so much better than they used to be Now as to why no picture in the paper — well we took plenty of pictures and Kreig did do a superb job of picturing me and the others with a beautiful animal in the for prime of life but that's enough me I was also pleased to see that you did understand that the "stroke of mercy" means just that Just think that ole tom no longer has to struggle through the lean times of because no fcxxl or being ever-war- y some bigger tom may come along and cat him or breathe our polluted atmosphere or suffer from ozone depletion or downwind radiation effects He no longer has to worry about possibly being gored by something with horns or run over by a truck suffer the dm of ATVs suffer the insult to olfactory senses from the back country preservationists invadkill ing his domain or have his eaten by coyotes while he is away sleeping off his meat binge Before he died I'm sure he was thinking "It is a far far better thing I do by continuing this saga that has been in existence since time began than to live the hazardous life I now do" As I read your letter I began to wonder at what the differences between a Bert and a Bruce really arc I know (or at least I believe) that we both have a deep and abiding love for animals of all kinds espethe cially "wild" ones I think that that is us between difference main one is a participator in the scheme of life while the other is an observer One know s that death is a part of life while the other views it as some sort of evil if perpetrated by man One understands that man is an integral part of the scheme of life while the other chooses to ignore that fact or views himself as somehow separate from it However the MIRACLE we call life came to be whether by chance nison Implement The Tack Shak in Richfield and all IFA stores Dance tickets will be sold separately or "Grand Design" it includes selfbiotic perpetuation potential and predatorprey relationships One of us recognizes the realities and actualities of the system and that the killing of one species by another is a necessity of lilc Regardless of whether one views man’s role as the "top dog" of the evolutionary ladder is a result of happensianccchanecor circumstance or that he is where lie is as some part of a great plan — he is in charge and will determine the eventual outcome of life as we know it If it was only evolution which produced this "thinking" caring visualizing recording sentient being utilizing other animals was a part of it If he was "placed” here by a Creator and "given" dominion over ALL other life to utilize and conquer killing was one of the ways and means to do it We have gained dominion over most things but have a ways to go with the insects bacteria viruses molds etc But we arc making progress if somewhat slower now because of the animalrights preservationist movements with their hypocrisy hanging out as they cat meat and fish utilize leather products keep pets and arc of disease research which uses animals from an inexhaustible supply when managed for such 1 his is the "standard" that Bruce would have us live by but thank gixxlncss their evolutionary superiority hasn't pul them in charge yet bcnc-liciari- The St George Horseshoe Pitchers Assn held its first
