CASTLE DALE — David A Blackwell was appointed Emery County Attorney March 2 at the regular meeting of the Emery County Commission Blackwell's appointment follows the resignation of Mark H Tanner He will serve the unexpired term of office which will conclude at the end of this year Blackwell takes office after obtaining a quality education and gaining extensive litigation experience He attended Brigham Young University and earned his bachelor's degree in political science He is a 1985 graduate of BYU's J Reuben Clark Law School Blackwell began his legal career serving a federal clerkship to Judge Howard D McKibbcn US District Court in Las Vegas At the conclusion of this clerkship he started his private practice by joining the law firm of Lahrum and Taylor in Richfield He became a partner in the firm 18 months later While with Labrum Taylor and Blackwell he was lead counsel in a f murder trial and handled over 300 felony eases Blackwell served as president of the Sevier School District Board of Education of which he was a member over four years while he and hiv family resided in Sevier County M was also a member of the Sev icr Valley Applied Technology Center Board and a barrister in the American Inn of Court He served on the board of the Central Utah Youth Home and was elected Piute County Attorney for a term of four years Blackwell resides in Ferron with his wife the former Natalie Hcadlcc and their four children Bryan Laura Beth Andrew and Trevor He has served as deputy county attorney for the past two years where he was primarily responsible for prosecuting criminal
