Using kerosene or other flammable liquids to start a fire in a furnace, fireplace, or stove is a very dangerous practice. So is cleaning clothes with benzine or gasoline. Better to take them to the local cleaner and spare the grief of a home fire. Garages, basements, closets and attics have their uses, but not as accumulation spots for papers, rags and old furniture. According to the foundation analysis, the above amounts were calculated for teachers with a bachelors degree. Additional sums are provided for teachers who have acquired added academic training. For example, a teacher in the South Sanpete School District with a masters degree and five years teaching experience receives a salary of $11,472 this year, or $900 more than a teacher with only a bachelors degree. Foundation analysts point out that the salary increases provided to Utah teachers during recent years have largely closed the gap that formerly existed between Utah and the surStates. rounding Mountain the average During 1976-7salary for classroom teachers in Utah was only 3.7 below the average of the eight Mountain States, compared with a difin 1967-6ference of 8.6 When allowance is made for the fact that Utah provides 5 of the employees share of retirement costs, a special benefit not generally available in the other states, Utahs average salary actually is found to be slightly above the Mountain States average. This year salary schedules for classroom teachers in the South Sanpete School District were boosted by an average of $566 or 5.41. In addition to this general salary hike, most teachers in South Sanpete School District who presently are not at the top of the salary scale also received annual experience increments averaging another $373 per year. Thus, the total average increase for teachers who have not reached the top step on the salary schedule this year was $939, or 8.89. The Foundation study shows that the starting salary for a teacher with a bachelors degree in the South Sanpete School District is $8,964. This sum rises with experience and added academic training. A teacher with only a bachelors degree could receive a maximum of $13,440 after 12 years. If the teacher obtained a masters degree the maximum could be as high as $14,520. These amounts are for approximately nine months of actual service. School spirit is on the minds of Ephraim Junior High students and they have new shirts to prove it.
