Show HILLTOP TIMES AFMC From page 1 location. The Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom AFB, Mass., became part of AFLCMC on July 16. The dual mission of test and air armament development at the Air Armament Center (AAC) at Eglin AFB, Fla., became part of the Air Force Test Center at Edwards AFB and AFLCMC, respectively. The air armament development portion of AAC become part of AFLCMC on July 18. Lt. Gen. C.D. Moore II assumed command of the AFLCMC. On July 10, the Air Force Sustainment Center activated at Tinker AFB and command was assumed by Lt. Gen. Bruce Litchfield. The AFSC consolidated oversight of the command's sustainment mission now carried out by air logistics complexes at Tinker AFB, Robins AFB, Ga., and Hill AFB, along with the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center at Scott AFB, Ill. The complexes were formerly air logistics centers. The center at Tinker AFB was redesignated July 10. AFGLSC at Scott AFB transitioned to AFSC on July 11. The Hill AFB center transitioned to a complex July 12, while Robins AFB's center transitioned to a complex July 17. At Edwards AFB, the redesignated Air Force Test Center began opera- tions July 6, with a formal ceremony a week later. On July 13, the 95th Air Base Wing at Edwards AFB transitioned as its people and mission were assigned to the 412th Test Wing. Command of the test center was assumed by Brig. Gen. Arnold Bunch Jr. The center oversees the command's test mission maintained at Edwards AFB, Eglin AFB and Arnold AFB, Tenn. On July 18 at Eglin AFB, the 96th ABW was redesignated the 96th Test Wing (TW). The people and mission of the current 46th TW transitioned to the newly designated 96th TW. Both the Eglin and Edwards AFBs' test wings aligned to the AFTC. On July 6, the Arnold Engineering and Development Center at Arnold AFB, Tenn., was redesignated as a complex and aligned with the test center at Edwards AFB. The life cycle management, sustainment and test centers were joined by the present Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB and the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland AFB, N.M., to complete the five-center line-up. Initial operational capability was set for Oct. 1, and full operational capability by mid-2013. Gen. Wolfenbarger took command of AFMC on June 5, replacing Gen. Donald Hoffman. Lt. Gen. The re-designation as an air logistics complex and consolidation with the AFSC was part of an AFMC effort that reduced the command's number of centers from 12 to five. By consolidating overhead, the command planned to improve the way it accomplished its mission, ultimately providing better support to the warfighter.
