Show HILLTOP TIMES `TIMES STEM GRANT NEWS BRIEFS 75th LRS Mobility to adjust its customer service hours The 75th LRS Mobility Section has changed its customer service hours to 7 a.m. -11 a.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Weapons Vault customer service is by appointment only. For immediate Air Force same-day administrative discharge, pre-separation and 24 hours short notice deployments, please contact customer service for assistance at (801) 777-2374. A&FRC reduces services Wednesdays The Airman and Family Readiness Center will be conducting training and administrative processing every Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Building 150 will remain open with reduced services/assistance available. Please plan accordingly. 388th Munitions Flight to conduct inventory The 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron/Munitions Flight will be conducting its semi-annual munitions inventory from April 1 to April 15. All munitions custodians are asked to please ensure all munitions turn-ins, issues, and expenditures are completed by the close of business March 31. For more information or answers to questions, e-mail amanda.andrus@hill.af.mil . 649th Munitions Squadron to conduct inventory The 649th Munitions Squadron will be conducting a 100 percent inventory of the depot (FV2172) stockpile April 1-30. All depot customers requiring munitions support during this timeframe must deliver the applicable documentation to the Custody Accounts section no later than March 22. During the inventory, the only transactions that will be supported are emergency requests approved in writing by the group commander or equivalent. Please direct any questions to Staff Sgt. Public lecture on defense budget "Defending Defense: Why Cutting the Defense Budget Doesn't Make Sense," a free public lecture will be presented by Gary Schmitt, former White House aide, newspaper and magazine contributor and resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Reasearch. The lecture on March 18, will be from 2:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Utah State University, Eccles Conference Center Auditorium, Room 216. Schmitt is also director of AEI's program on American Citizenship and has also authored several books pertaining to defense and national security issues. Saban Military Wife Scholarship Operation Homefront and the Saban Family Foundation announced recently that they have begun accepting applications for the 2011 Saban Military Wife Educational Scholarship. The scholarship award is offered to wives of uniformed service members so they may attend vocational training programs in the medical field. Fifteen $8,500 scholarships and five $10,000 scholarships will be awarded for tuition for vocational training in one of the following fields: dental assistant, medical assistant, medical billing and coding specialist, medical insurance technician, patient care assistant/technician, nurse assistant training program or medical transcription. Two $30,000 scholarships will be awarded for tuition for vocational nursing programs. Applications will be accepted from March 1 through May 1. The scholarships will be awarded to recipients in July 2011. Selection for the scholarships will be made by a panel of judges and the award will be scored in two areas: the applicant's volunteerism and response to the essay question. "Operation Homefront is committed to providing assistance to the families of military service members, and our partnership with the Saban Foundation gives us another opportunity to help military wives reach for their dreams to improve themselves and provide a better life for their families," said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of Operation Homefront. USU Air Force ROTC to hold Braveheart 5K Utah State University Air Force ROTC and Aviation Technology Departments are hosting the Braveheart 5K Race on March 19 at 9 a.m. to raise funds for 5-month-old Cache County resident Mason Johnson who was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Infants born with HLHS have critically underdeveloped structures on the left side of the heart. At 29 days old, Johnson underwent the first of a three-part series of surgeries. MERKLEY/U.S. Air Force Northern Utah Academy of Math, Engineering and Science Early College High School teacher Bryan Rudes accepts a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics grant check of $1,000 from Lt. Col. Stephen J. Bailey, Wasatch Chapter president of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and 84th Radar Evaluation Squadron commander. The grant was sought to help fund Vex Robotics efforts at the school, a program which helps sophomores begin preparation for more advanced robotics projects. Vex can have as many teams competing as the school wants to fund and the grant will help make it possible for more students to participate in the competition.
