Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES April 16, 2009 CAC renewal process options lilfi Hniln B BY BRIAN S. SHAFER Customer Service representative/Passport agent 75th Force Support Squadron Supervisors... to whom have you answered recently? The common ' answer would be your ,, supervisor, spouse, unit, community and Air Force. However, I ask you to not forget the indirect people you answer to. ^4^ When you train and ^ equip your Airmen ... *t *; when you ensure the families of your Airmen are safe and well... when you provide counsel to , your Airman about life choices, who is it that you ultimately answer to? Of course, the answer is each Airman's mother, father, brother, sister and/ or a significant other to that Airman. And, when you assumed the role as a supervisor, you inherited the sobering responsibility of leading America's sons and daughters, and hopefully with much thought ' behind it, you pledged to take care of someone's most special part of their life V*i^---"i«-'-* •' - Lead boldly, passionately, and thoughtfully... those that ultimately rely on us will be proud. ,, _ T uilding 430 ID card section has five workstations. Two workstations are dedicated to renewing Common Access Cards for members who have scheduled appointments via the Web scheduler located on the HillNet at https://hillnet.hill.af.mil/CAC. Two more workstations are dedicated to servicing same-day CAC walk-in customers. The fifth station serves all other customers for such services as dependent IDs, DEERS enrollments and blocked CACs. Having the same-day walk-in appointments for CACs allows those individuals who don't have access to the Web scheduler to get their CACs while providing a way for the center to control customer flow to match system capability. Walk-in customers can come in, choose an available time to get their CAC issued, go about their day, and come back when personnel can assist them. This eliminates the extreme wait times of the previous unlimited walk-ins. Depending on the day, the list can fill up fairly quickly which is why it is recommended customers come in early to sign up. Not coming in at 7 a.m. does not mean you won't get an appointment. The availability of appointments will just not be as good later in the day. Typically most of the appointments for the day are full somewhere between mid- to late morning, however this is not always the case. When the schedule is full, schedulers try to accommodate those customers who experience CAC issues. If they can, depending on customer flow and whether they are on or ahead of schedule, they will try to work those folks in but can't make any guarantees. The center does not have the manpower to take appointments by phone because it would result in continual stops in serving customers in order to schedule other appointments which brings further delays in customer service.
