Show HILLTOP TIMES 'Step Brothers' likely to give some laughs TwitterBugs, bloggers sought by 367th TRSS D BY STEVE SALLES Standard-Examiner movie critic Ii TIMES November 6, 2008 "have mixed feelings about two seemingly grown men acting like complete babies for an hour and a .half. When I've described the premise to others, the response has been diverse. Oddly enough, most men have said some. • thing like, "That sounds funny but far-fetched," while most women suggest, "Oh yeah, I can totally see that happening." Apparently, the ladies aren't shocked or surprised by these big, goofy manchildren. Ouch. But I had a , * hard time grasping.the characters in "Step Brothers" as, at first, I thought they were either slow-witted or mentally challenged. Then, when it's revealed that they're just a couple of regular joes, the previous antics are unexplainable, except to squeeze out a few awkward laughs. Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) is a 39-year-old goof-off who still lives with his single mom (Mary Steenburgen) and can't keep a job. He sits around doing nothing, stuffing his face and watching TV all day. Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) is a 40-year-old slug who • wants to be a doctor like his dad (Richard Jenkins), but prefers to play his drums and practice martial arts until that day arrives. The worlds of both of these "boys" will be disrupted when . mom and dad meet, fall in love and decide to marry. Now • they must all live together in one house. . • Brennan and Dale must share a room, resulting in an instant hatred for each other. The stepparents act like this is all completely normal, and although the antics are occasionally funny, the bit soon runs out of steam and resorts to • harsh language and sexual content. I'm sure many will find "Step Brothers" hysterical — and it does have its moments. But these guys are better than this material, and they should stop selling themselves cheaply. o you twitter on your FaceBook? Do you blog while you roflmao?
