Show TEAM HILI 10 TIMES November 6, 2008 Spirit Pin designs wanted Re-enlistments T he Hill Air Force Base Spirit Award Committee is soliciting designs for the 2009 HAFB Spirit Award Pin. The pin will be approximately 1 inch in size and can be one or more colors. Your input should include a full size image of your design as well as a smaller version to give the committee a realistic view of the actual pin size. Submissions must be your original • artwork and cannot infringe on any copyright laws. Please e-mail your proposed design to Tona.Mahas@hill.af.mil as a PowerPoint presentation or as a JPEG image. Veterans Day Parade in Ogden on Nov. 8 The American Legion Post 1481 is proud to announce its third annual Veterans Day Parade to be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 11 a.m. in Ogden. It will start at 18th Street and Washington Boulevard, and with more than 1,200 participants will be the largest Veterans Day event in Utah. The parade will proceed south on Washington Boulevard to 23rd Street and then go west to Lindquist Field where there will be displays and activities for all age levels. For more information call Dennis Howland at 389-1893. Parents can use new weight equipment at Hess Center Hess Fitness Center has areas specifically designed for parents to work out. The cardio and weight rooms are designated for parents' use only with an adjacent area for children to play in within sight of their parents. The strength training area has been stocked with new Life Fitness selectorized equipment. Regularly scheduled exercise classes are held in other areas in the Hess Center and are open to regular patrons. The Hess Center is open Monday through Friday 4:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m.-8 p.m., with raquetball, volleyball and basketball courts. The swimming pool is open during regular hours for open swimming, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lap swimming those days is from 5 a.m. Children's pow wow set at Hill Field Elementary School The Hill Air Force Base American Indian/ Alaska Native Association is planning a Kids Pow Wow at Hill Field Elementary School, 389 S. 1000 East, Clearfield, Nov. 15, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Native American dancers will perform. Native American artifacts, bead work and refreshments will be for sale. Admission is $2 per individual, $5 per family, two cans of food per person, five cans of food per family. Canned goods are being collected for the Airman's Attic and the Indian Walk-In Center in Salt Lake City. Free Veterans Day cave tours for veterans, military members Veterans and current members of the armed forces and their families are invited to visit Great Basin National Park on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The park will offer free tours of Lehman Caves to U.S. military veterans and current members of the U.S. armed forces and their families. Cave tours are either 90 or 60 minutes in length. Four tours per day are available. The 90 minute tours occur at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The 60 minute tours occur at 11 am. and 3 p.m. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on the 90 minute tours. Cave tours are limited to 20 participants per tour. To ensure a space, visitors may obtain tickets over the phone in advance. Tickets cannot be obtained by phone on the same day as the tour. A maximum of 20 spaces per tour are available for advance reservation. You may get tickets in advance by calling (775) 234-7331 Ext. 212. Phone orders are taken from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PST), Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. Cave tours follow paved trails with stair steps along the route. Low ceilings may require frequent stooping. Trails may be wet and slippery. Wear shoes with good traction. The cave is 50 degrees Fahrenheit and 90 percent humidity. Jackets are recommended. Cell phones, backpacks, purses, fanny packs, food, gum, tobacco and water are not permitted on cave tours. 10-digit/7-digit dialing - mandate to start in March Beginning March 1, all telephone users at Hill Air Force Base, Little Mountain and the Utah Test and Training Range will be required to dial all seven digits to complete on-base calls and all 10 digits for any local outgoing calls. For example, instead of dialing 7-8324 on base, you will now have to dial 777-8324. For off-base local calls, you will have to dial the "99" access code followed by all 10 digits.
