Maj. Gary Grove and his son Staff Sgt. Jonas Grove, were deployed in support of the Global War on Terrorism to Kyrgyzstan. Maj. Grove is a Hill civilian employee and Reserve officer. hief Master Sgt. Kevin Candler, 75th Air Base Wing command chief, and Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth Czop, 388th Fighter Wing command chief, held a contest Sept. 9 among all members of Hill Air Force Base to see who could do the most push-ups in 10 minutes. Participants were encouraged to get sponsors so that any proceeds raised could be given to the enlisted programs here on base. Twelve competitors participated and solicited donations from others, raising $1,017 for equal distribution between Hill 56 and Airmen Against Drunk Driving. In the men's division nine competitors competed for the $50 gift card and bragging rights. Sean Conorich, a civilian with the 75th Security Forces Squadron, took the overall title with 357 push- ups. He was closely followed by Airman Henry Chung, 729th Air Control Squadron, with 325 push-ups, and 2nd Lt. Jacob Stewart, 501st Combat Sustainment Squadron, came in third place with 267 push-ups. On the women's side there were three competitors challenging each other for first place and the gift card. Senior Airman Randa Head, 649th Munitions Squadron, lead the pack totaling 192 push-ups. Technical Sgt. Ezra Thomas, 75th Aerospace Medical Squadron, finished her time with 115 push-ups. Rounding out the field was Senior Airman Ashley Carter, 388th Component Maintenance Squadron, compiling 112 push-ups. The event was a success in raising funds for Airmen and allowing others to enjoy some friendly competiton. For those who missed the chance to compete, there is no need for concern. The chiefs will be hosting another challenge in November to include a two-mile run and a pull-up contest.
