Show AROUND THE HILL YOUTH CENTER Friday. ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS FOR AGES 6-18. Membership provides discounts for Preteen and Teen events, Instructional Classes, and Youth Sports Programs. Membership Fees are $12 per year for ages 6-8 and $24 per year for ages 9-18. PIZZA & FAMILY BINGO. The second Friday of each month, held May 12 this month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers. There are a total of 15 games—10 game cards and 1 single card along with a ticket for a door prize. Parents and adults may only purchase as many game cards for themselves as they purchase for their children. Daubers are available for $1.50 in a variety of colors. A minimum of 15 players is required. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. for game card purchases and at 5:45 p.m. pizza by the slice sales begin—$1.75 for cheese and $2 for pepperoni or sausage. Early Bird games begin at 6:30 p.m. TORCH CLUB MEETING. Open to ages 9-13, this club meets every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Get involved and voice your ideas for activities, events, and field trips offered at the Youth Center. Join the fun and learn how to earn Torch Club pins and shirts. KEYSTONE CLUB MEETING. Open to ages 13-18, this club meets from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Thursday. PRETEEN HANG OUT. Keystone Club is hosting this event Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Activities include everything from Karaoke to videogame tournaments. Learn the history of Folk Art and practice the skills needed to paint in this charming style. PICTORIAL LEATHER ART CLASS June 23 and 24, 3-8 p.m. This is a 10-hour class and costs $95 per student, all supplies included. Students will trace a picture onto a piece of leather, tool it, and stain and paint it. During the process of tooling, students will push parts of the leather from behind, making an indention and fill it with scraps of leather. Minimum of three students required per class. Don Johnson, Instructor. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS begins June 7, 5-7 p.m., four-week class. Cost is $35 per student. Instruction includes types o£ cameras, point and shoot, mega-pixel - which is best, lenses, field depth, controls and exposure, film speeds, file types, composition, lighting, and photographing people. Minimum of six students required per class. John Hampton, Instructor. INTERMEDIATE STAINED GLASS CLASS begins June 1, 5:30-8 p.m., five-week class. Cost is $49 per student plus $30 for materials. Students will construct a panel with bevels and colored glass. Learn how to draw a pattern and then lead came, solder it together, make a rectangular panel starting with lead, cut the lead came, and cement and finish the piece. Ron Snorgrass, Instructor. BASIC. STAINED GLASS CLASS Tuesdays beginning June 6, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost is $49 per student plus $20 for materials. During the 5-week class, students will make at least 1 copper foil project and will learn the copper foil technique of making stained glass. Receive equipment certification card that is required prior to using Wood Shop power tools. WOODWORKING 301 CLASS - Barrister's Bookcase begins June 26, 5:30-8 p.m. at a cost of $80 per student plus ' materials. The Youth Center is open for teens only, ages 13-18, on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Teens can play pickup basketball games, video games, pool, and watch movies on a big screen T.V. POWER HOUR. Join us Monday through Thursday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in our Homework Lab. Youth are provided a room free of noise to complete homework and other school projects. Receive 15 Power Hour Points in a month and have a pizza party! SPANISH CLUB. Meets every Monday from 4-5 p.m. Learn to speak and understand Spanish; be ready to plan a trip to Cancun. TENNIS CLUB. Meets every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. participants will learn basic tennis skills! Play with friends and family and learn a sport for life! FIT FACTOR. Get up, Get out, Get fit! Earn points and prizes through this computer based interactive program. Youth can sign up during Open Recreation hours and track their points from home. Receive up to 100 points a day for doing every day activities like basketball, fooseball, and washing dishes. Signup at www.afgetfit.com to receive your first prize! INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES. Stop by and talk with the instructor, Mr. Stangle, or call 7772419 for more information. CONGRESSIONAL AWARD. Open to youth ages 14-18, the Congressional Award is about challenge. It is a fun way to get more involved in something you already enjoy or that you would like to try for the first time. To earn the award, you set goals in four areas: Volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration. Our Teen Coordinator will help you set challenging but achievable goals and plan activities to reach those goals. YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SKILLS PROGRAM (YES). The Youth Employment Skills Program is an on-base volunteer program for high school students and is being offered at select Air Force bases. This program, underwritten by the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS), is a joint effort between AFAS and Air Force Services to offer high school students an opportunity to learn valuable work skills, "bank" dollar credits toward their post-secondary education, and have a positive impact on their base community. OUTDOOR RECREATION DESOLATION CANYON RIVER TRIP May 7 -12 at a cost of $210 per person. Trip departs from Bldg 805 at 7 a.m. on May 7. Trip includes 11 meals, transportation, and staff. A list of items to bring will be given upon sign-up. All items must fit into one (issued) waterproof bag, per person. Please bring extra money for food on the way to and from Hill. A minimum of nine sign-ups and a maximum of 12 required for this trip. FLY TYING CLASSES offered May 10,17, 24,31, July 5,12, & August 2,9. Classes are held at the Log Cabin Wednesday evenings, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at a cost of $35 for four 2-hour sessions. Children ages 12 and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. A minimum of 8 students are needed to sign up for this class and a maximum of 15. PARADE REST RANCH AND YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK trip May 26 - 29. A cost of $250 per person includes gratuity and $100 deposit due upon sign-up (DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE). Trip includes a guided tour of Yellowstone National park and a trip to Nevada City! Sign up and pay 2 weeks prior to trip departure date. Please bring extra money for lunch on the way to and from Parade Rest Ranch. Children must be at least 8 years old to horseback ride. Corral rides for younger children are available. Arrangements for a babysitter can be made in advance if needed. There is a maximum weight limit of 225 pounds to ride the horses. A minimum of eight people required for this trip and a maximum of 20. FLY FISHING CLASSES June 7,14, 21,28, August 16, 23,30 and Sept. 6. Classes are held at the Log Cabin Wednesday evenings, 6-8 p.m. at a cost of $25 for four 2-hour sessions and one outing to local waters. Students must provide their own fishing equipment. Outdoor Recreation has two rods and reels available to rent. Children ages 12 and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. A minimum of eight students required for this class and a maximum of 15. GREEN RIVER FLY FISHING TRIP June 2 - 4 at a cost of $150 per person. Enjoy a day of fly fishing on the Green River by Drift Boat or Pontoon Boat. Participants must bring lunch on the way to Flaming Gorge, small ice chest, current fishing license, fly fishing gear, camping gear, and personal items. Fins for the Pontoon Boat are required and participants must provide their own. Cost includes transportation, Drift Boat, Pontoon Boat, two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners. Children ages 12 and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. A minimum of four participants are needed and a maximum of seven for this trip. LABYRINTH CANYON CANOE TRIP June 10 - 14 at a cost of $150 per person. Participants must bring money for lunch on the way to and from the river, tent, sleeping bag, hat, rain gear, bug repellant and personal items. AMERICA'S ARMED FORCES KIDS RUN MAY 20. Beginning at 9 a.m. behind the Base Clinic (southeast parking lot), this event will provide 20,000 children ages 5-13 an opportunity to participate in a fun run on Air Force, Navy, and Army bases worldwide. Ages 5-6 will run 1/2 mile, ages 7-8 will run lmile, and ages 9-13 will run 2 miles with a finish line reward of an "America's Kids Run" T-shirt. Participants can go to the website www.americaskidsrun.org and click on "registration", and then click "programs". Find Hill and then click on it. From there, follow the registration form links for the specific age groups. Participants may also sign up the day of the event at the start/finish line. Pick up race number from 8 -8:45 a.m. Bring the whole family—in strollers and walkers. APPROPRIATE DRESS REQUIRED FOR ALL YOUTH CENTER FUNCTIONS. Halter tops and spaghetti straps are not permitted. Shirts must cover midriff. Garments should not contain inappropriate slogans or advertisement for alcohol, tobacco, or include sexually suggestive content or text. Pants will not be worn in a manner that shows undergarments. GRAND CANYON HIKE June 17 - 23 at a cost of $220 per person. Hikers must be in good physical condition with a minimum age of 10 if accompanied by a parent. There will be two pre-trip meetings June 7 and 14 to go over trip plans, equipment and weight packs (ideal weight is 30 pounds or less). Packs and sleeping bags are available to rent from Outdoor Recreation. There are 9 slots available for this trip. PAIUTEATV RIDE June 30-July 4 at a cost of $160 per person. Only one rider per ATV and all riders must be at least 18 years old. Participants can bring fishing poles to fish along the way. Cost includes ATV, helmet, first tank of gas for ATV, dinner Friday night and trip leader. Participants need to bring camping gear (available to rent from Outdoor Recreation) riding . boots (no tennis shoes for riding) water bottle/canteen, food for four breakfasts, three lunches, three dinners and money for two lunches to and from Hill. All gear must fit onto the ATV, so pack lightly. A minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 8 for this trip. JACKSON HOLE WHITE WATER RAFTING TRIPS July 14-16, July 28 - 30 and August 11 - 13 at a cost of $120 per person. Trip includes transportation, campground for two nights, rafts, equipment, trip leader and three meals. Children must be at least 8 and parents are responsible for their children. Participants must bring camping gear, water shoes, rain gear, towels, sunscreen, personal items, and money for two lunches and one breakfast. A minimum of 15 participants for this trip and a maximum of 25 are needed. YELLOWSTONE FAMILY CAMPING TRIP August 24 - 27 at a cost of $135 per person. Participants need to bring money for lunch on the way to West Yellowstone and money for lunch in Jackson Hole, sleeping bag, tent and personal items. Trip includes transportation, campground, three breakfasts, two lunches and three dinners. Children 7 and older are welcome if accompanied by their parents. A minimum of 12 participants for this trip and a maximum of 25 are needed. HAVASUPAI FALLS TRIP Oct. 5 - 9 at a cost of $260 per person. Participants need to bring money for meals on the way to Havasupai Falls and the trip back to Hill. There is a store in the village and a cafe where individuals can purchase supplies and meals or bring food for three breakfasts, three lunches and three dinners. Trip includes transportation, camping fees, helicopter ride out and two meals. Children 10 and older are welcome if accompanied by their parents.
