Show TIMES May 4, 2006 Bollards Continued from 1 ALC commander takes test drive Lt. Col, Peter Sartori, 775th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. Colonel Sartori said that previously, during higher force protection condition (FPCON) levels, barrels and security tape were used where the bollards now stand. "These create a physical barrier," Sergeant Nutt said. "Even if (vehicles) build up speed the bollards would not allow them to pass." In addition to increasing security, the installation of the bollards also simplifies the process of increasing security during higher FPCON levels, which saves time and manpower. Before members of the civil engineering squadron would have to go to each individual area and set up blockades. "The older vehicle plan took an enormous amount of time to set up," said Sergeant Nutt. "Nowwe can transition from different FPCON levels more easily." Removable bollards, which Photo by Kevin Caudlll can Front seat left: Maj. Gen.
