His co-workers say he does his job well. They also say that by virtue of being the "new guy" to the organization he must, by default, take the blame for anything that might go wrong. They're joking, of course, and Jimmy takes it all in stride. What jimmy is not, is one who likes to make a lot of noise about himself. Those who know him are not surprised that he doesn't want to make a big fuss over the fact that he recently helped to resuscitate a long time Hill employee. Mr. Snyder had taken off work July 6 to spend the day with his son. On their way to pick up a boat from the base's outdoor recreation center, they decided to stop in at the Halfway House, a snack shack located near the ninth hole of the base golf course to enjoy a couple of the shack's famous chili dogs. Rosalita "Rose" Smith was working that day when Mr. Snyder heard someone say she'd collapsed. He immediately took the lead in providing her with CPR. Previously trained in CPR, Mr. Snyder had never used it outside the controlled | environment of the classroom and conditions at the Halfway House were less than ideal. F-16s taking off toward that end of the runway caused a great deal of noise and vibration, which made checking her vitals extremely difficult. In spite of the challenges he faced, including a great deal of doubt concerning his efforts, it was those efforts that aided Ms. Smith until the paramedics arrived to take over. Mr. Snyder's actions were heroic, there's no denying that. Because of his efforts, Ms. Smith's family received the precious gift of a little more time with her. Sadly, Ms. Smith did not survive heart surgery and passed away July 12. Mr. Snyder's efforts were not in vain and hopefully will serve as encouragement to all of us to help each other when help is needed. Nominator: Bob James, Environmental Management Division chief Compiled by Lisa Aschbrenner 75th Air Base Wing Unit Public Affairs Representative.
