Karen Kroon nomination have touched. Wash your hands regularly, as this is the 75th Aerospace Medicine Squadron The Hill Clinic has not yet received any flu vaccine, and due to the nationwide shortage of vaccine, when it arrives it will be administered on a priority system, based on who is most at risk for complications. Those in the first priority group are: • Children age 6-23 months • Those over 65 years • Those within 2-65 years of age who have high-risk medical conditions (conditions include asthma, other chronic heart and lung diseases, diabetes, kidney disease, weakened immune system from medication or disease such as HIV) • Long-term care residents • Children on aspirin therapy • Pregnant women. The next priority includes health care workers with direct patient contact and close contacts with children younger than 6 months. At this time, we don't anticipate having enough vaccine for healthy active duty members. The only exception is those who are deployed, and they will receive vaccine at the deployed location. The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. For the majority of people symptoms are similar to a cold, but worse with a more sudden onset, and include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, muscle aches and runny nose. Flu can have severe complications such as pneumonia, which can be life threatening, especially in older people, young children and those with certain health conditions — the reason why these groups have first priority. While getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent the flu, there are ways to avoid the illness if you aren't vaccinated. Flu is spread in respiratory droplets caused by coughing and sneezing. It usually spreads from person to person, though occasionally a person may become infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching his mouth or nose. Adults can infect others beginning one day before getting symptoms and up to seven days after getting sick.
