That won’t do any good” Hanid said: “Well it’s better than nothing You ought to try it” So the Canary hopped over to the side where the little glass shell hung It was partly filled with water He took a mouthful and gargled — ” he went "Oh” cried one of the children looking up "the canary is sing"Goo-oo-og- le ing” goo-oo-o- gle "What a pretty song” said another "It sounds as though his I sat very quietly on our porch evening admiring the pretty green lawn that had Just had a very good watering and clipping" when who should fly down but gay Mr Robin Red Breast He bounced around on the lawn for a few minutes like baby’s rubber ball stopping every few hops to cock his saucy head from one side to another as if watching to see if I was going to try and frighten him away When he had quite satisfied himself that I meant no harm he stopped his bouncing and very carefully began to watch the wet lawn First he would look with one sharp eye then with the other and moving carefully from one spot to another All of a sudden Mr Robin Red Breast stopped looked straight at the earth between the grass blades for a minute and with his sharp bill reached right down in the ground and came up with a twisting wriggling angleworm He swallowed him and went hopping over the grass as if he had accomplished what he came for He wasn’t quite satisfied for the same performance was repeated over and over Each time he came up with a sure enough big fat angleworm After awhile when he must have eaten all he could hold he pulled an angleworm out got it tight in his bill and flew away to find his young or his mate I one "Sore throat — can’t sing—can’t sing a note” the canary was saying No one paid much attention to it however except the shadows— Mij Flor Hanid Yam and Knarf The children to whom they belonged simply thought that the canary was squawking But the shadows put their faces close up to the cage They down from his perch to the seed box "Why don’t you gargle?” said Page Eleven Canary has a sort throat fered to help too But they all wondered where they were going to get a red stocking Finally little Yam saidd: “Does it have to be red?” “Well it could be blue” said Knarf "though blue isn’t as good as red for a sore throat” "I wish you wouldn’t bother about it at all” said the canary "I’m getting very sleepy” Suddenly the shadows were surprised to hear that it stopped They looked The canary had his head under his wing He was fast asleep (Copyright 1934 K F S Inc) Sitting on the floor Although she has been naughty She won’t be any more She got into the cream jug I had to scold her too But now she looks so penitent I don’t know what to do PAGE KATHRYN WHITSON Age 11 Salt Lake City (Illustration by Ruby Tashima Layton) About Charts If you forget to mark your chart each night do not go back and try to remember whether you did the right or the wrong thing for several days past It is Impossible to do that Just leave the space blank suppose I looked all over the lawn trying to find out just how he knew where to dig or if the earth was loosened or moving in any way but Mr Robin’s eyes were better than mine for 1 could find nothing different in any place PAGE BONNIE MAE ZIRKER Myton Flag Day Flag day comes every year Sunshine or rain For on We this glorious day remember qur flag again The red white and blue Are colors that fly true!
