Show FULL OF WATER town of Armour dale abandoned and people are waiting for flood to subside the evicted people find shelter fo themselves and their belonging belongings and are waiting time when they may return with safety kansas city the great kakmis kaw mis sou bourl ri flood which has almost reached its crest drew hundreds of thou thousand sanda 3 of sightseers to the bluffs overl overlooking boking the flooded bottoms on sunday the water has done all the damage that la Is in its power the railroad yards have been evacuated the packing bouses houses and business establishments have vacated their lower floors Armour dale has been entirely abandoned by its 12 inhabitants and water Is run ning twelve feet deep in its streets there is no excitement anywhere the evicted people having found foi for themselves and their movable prop erty there Is nothing to do but to wait for the tide to turn officials and business men of both kansas cities express a determination to put an end to the annual floods the great difficulty has been that two I 1 states tates having two city governments the united states government three counties and numerous interstate rail roads are involved during the past year the united states has de declared clarea the kaw a navigable stream this gives the war department authority author ity to order the removal of the union pacific and missouri pacific low bridges which obstruct the river and cause the overflow of Armour dale and the stock ards at every high water any echeme scheme of raising the banks of the kaw would involve elevating the rail road tracks one measure proposed pro posed is to cut a canal across the point of land where the missouri makes its big bend to the east this canal would carry the missouri overflow from a point above kansas city to a point several miles below the city ofil ceals of the two kansas cities are cooperating in steps to control the rivers |
