Lou has been traveling throughout the South giving personal appearances and recruiting young talent for future TV shows. He has taken his ‘‘Pride”’ show to high schools and colleges in an effort to find young people with the ability and desire to go into show business. Lou is the first black national recording artist from Utah and his first record is due for release in this area in the very near future. While in Salt Lake City, Lou’s booking agent, Ed Russell has him busy appearing at local clubs, Air Force bases and night clubs in Reno and Las Vegas. Lou will leave for Vietnam with a seven act show sometime in November to entertain our troops stationed there. Later this fall, he will be on the Art Linkletter and Merv Griffin shows. He is hoping to film a special show on the drug problem in Salt Lake City and will possibly be included as part of the entertainment at the Utah State fair in September. He just finished filming a documentary for the LDS Church about race and the church which will be shown throughout the country in churches and organizations. — Fortunately, this fine young singer enjoys traveling and has some background working with other entertainers to prepare him for ‘living out of a suitcase”’. Lou advises other aspiring entertainers, ‘‘use every opportunity to sing — at church, local clubs, anywhere you can. Watch other entertainers — don’t copy their style but build your own. Find someone to promote you. In Utah it is hard to do this. Not too many professionals come into our state to entertain, but go to see all those you can and watch performers on TV. A national agency is helpful but usually you need to get some experience and exposure before they will consider working for you. Our Pride shows will help young people who want to make it in entertainment, but you ‘have to have something a little different — push yourself— become known at least locally. You have to be willing to perform free to start. There are some great young blacks in this area — kids with a lot of talent, but there isn’t anyone to Therefore, promote them. | am willing to help the all | can.’” Lou with most of was the fact music.
