Community Encouraged to Support Area Medical Clinic Stockholders Thanked for Volunteer Efforts American Legion Post 129 to Honor Service Men and Women Everyone wanted a clinic and a doctor up here. However, the majority never supported the clinic! It cannot survive with only two patients a day. There is a doctor/PA, a nurse and a receptionist/scheduler who require salaries plus the cost of building rental, utilities, and supplies. Children up here need physicals and shots for school. Older people have many health problems—some so severe that making it clear to Ogden could not be considered feasible and could even be critical. The clinic accepts most insurances. Granted, the clinic is not in an ideal location nor very big. There is not a waiting room or the affordability of an x-ray machine. This requires adequate use to be economical. There are a lot of empty buildings here in the Valley, but without enough patient requirements, the rent or renovation is too much for them. Money does not come from cities and counties to assist a clinic, all costs are borne by the physician/PA. Bear these facts in mind when, and if, we lose our benefit of having a local medical clinic. Also ask yourself, how can Eden even think of supporting a city and the required facilities without a large tax increase when Ogden Valley cannot even support a necessary medical clinic. The Eden Irrigation Company held a “ditch cleanup” recently. While this used to be an annual ritual in this community, for the last dozen and more years it has been accomplished by the same one, two, or three people. This year we had the help of many more and, as a result, much more was quickly cleaned and much more overgrowth was cleared. Also, due to this past winter’s heavy snows, the job was much bigger. In contrast to the conspicuous absence of the majority of our stockholders when it comes to cleaning the ditch system, the presence of the following individuals was greatly appreciated and I would like to publicly thank them for their efforts on behalf of all of our stockholders: On May 31, 2004 a World War II monument will be officially dedicated in Washington D.C. It has been 58 years since the war ended and that seems like a long time to wait for something that should have been done right after the young men and women came home to their families. On May 31, 2004 the American Legion Ogden Valley Post 129 will honor all WWII veterans and their wives at a memorial luncheon. This will be held at the Legion home in Huntsville. All veterans are cordially invited to attend. The Legion Post will also perform its annual honor guard ceremony at the Liberty cemetery at 8 a.m., the Lower (Meadow View) cemetery in Eden at 8:30 a.m., the Upper (Mountain View) cemetery in Eden at 9:15 a.m., the Mountain Green cemetery at 10:30 a.m., and the Huntsville cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend these services to honor our deceased and present military servicemen and women. A note to all those who fly the flag on this wonderful day: please inspect your flag; if it is torn or dirty, think about replacing it. If it is just dirty from the weather, it can be soaked in a solution of Chlorox II and gently washed. It will look like new. Fly the flag with pride and honor. June and Gary Anderson, Eden Annual Rummage Sale Being Sponsored to Benefit NUAP Feeling cramped, over crowded, and overwhelmed with all the clutter? Now here’s your chance to break free from all of the “treasures” you’ve been collecting. The parents of the Northern Utah Autism Program (NUAP) are holding their Second Annual Rummage Sale! Here’s your opportunity to take control and clear out your spaces while donating it to a worthy cause. The rummage sale will be held Saturday, June 19, 2004 in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Wal-mart in South Ogden from 8:00 a.m. until noon. All of the money raised form the sale will go towards purchasing supplies for the upcoming year. This event is our largest fundraiser of the year so we would like to extend an invitation for all to donate and participate. If you would like to donate clothing, toys, books, furniture, or other items to the sale, we will have a drop-off on Saturday, June 12 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the LDS church in downtown Huntsville. Please donate what you can for such a good cause. We thank you for your generosity. If you have any questions about the rummage sale, or how to donate, please call April Flitton at 745-9495. Lewis Beck, Eden --James Allen NOXIOUS WEED cont. from page 1 Be persistent and don’t give up on pulling out the yellow flowering weed whenever you come upon the dastardly mustard. After being pulled, the weed can be left on the ground, unless it has already formed the black looking seeds. In this case, the seeds must be collected and destroyed in order to prevent further spreading. Since the eradication of dyers woad is a matter of economic survival for many, Valley residents are encouraged to do their part to prevent the spread of the noxious weed. Please remove, or have sprayed, all dyers woad from your property and along the roadside in front of your property before the weed goes to seed. For more information, contact the Utah State Extension office at 399-8200, or the County Weed Department at 399-8356.
