In order participate in the Republican Primary Elections, you must be a registered Republican or an unaffiliated voter willing to officially affiliate with a political party at the polls. This information will be verified at the polling place. Although Utah voters are not required to declare a political affiliation in order to register to vote, the state has given parties the right to control their own Primaries. Therefore the rules for Primaries can and do vary by party. The rules pertaining to voter eligibility for participation in Primary Elections in Utah are standardized by party for all levels of government that hold party Primaries. All properly registered voters may participate in the general elections held in November and in non-party Primaries. Non-party races are typically held in odd-numbered years for city, school board, and similar offices. County government races are party races and are held in even-numbered years.
