The concert will feature the Utah Symphony Chamber Orchestra, led by Keith Lockhart, with guest artists the Arcata String Quartet. The diverse program highlights the music of four composers: Diamond’s “Music for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet;” Chihara’s “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine for String Quartet and Chamber Orchestra;” Wagner’s “Liegfried’s Idyll;” and Schubert’s “Symphony No. 3 in D major, D.200.” Founded in 1993 at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, the Arcata String Quartet has become one of the most outstanding ensembles. Its members have had numerous radio and television appearances, were named faculty and string quartet-in-residence at Utah State University, and teach at conservatories in New York State and abroad. They frequently present world premiers by various composers. Their outstanding musicianship, enhanced by great talent, ambition, and perseverance, has catapulted these four young musicians to the forefront of successfully performing quartets. Tickets are $19 and $15, and may be purchased by calling 399-9214, or visiting the OSBA box office at 638 East 26th Street in Ogden. Classes encourage young thespians to learn to listen to each other, think and analyze, move and present themselves, share their ideas, find the importance in their work and have a great time in the process. Students perform in a production at the end of each eight-week class offering. Productions will include full costumes, script and theatrical stage. Summer theater will be produced in an out-of-doors setting. According to the developers of One Moment in Time, children deserve the opportunity to be treated as serious individuals, and the same standards of excellence that apply to adult theater must also apply to children’s theater. One Moment in Time gives children the opportunity to learn the art of stage acting, which is very flamboyant and over expressive, and live acting used in movies, television and commercials. Classes offer a fun, safe, and stimulating environment for children to develop their imagination, talent and selfesteem. Through One Moment in Time children’s theater program, children explore voice, acting, and stage technique. More importantly, they gain selfconfidence and learn commitment, responsibility, communication and teamwork. The owners of One Moment in Time believe these skills are critical to young people’s success—both in school and in life. Joan Goodenough, her daughter Tricia Pollock, and Kristine Garmire have formed this theatrical group because of their love of the arts. They’ve had the idea for many years. Joan and Tricia have lived in Liberty for 22 years. Both have degrees in Fine Art and were with a production company in Bad Kronax, Germany. Kristine has lived in Ogden for 13 years and has a Bachelor Degree in Dramatic Arts. She lived in New York and performed in off-Broadway productions there. “They have been artists their whole lives, with a dream to teach children’s theatre, Joan Goodenough stated of her partners. “People around here haven’t had the opportunity to be exposed to the arts. We want to offer them to the children.” The theater organizers have been working with children in several plays already. The plays are downsized for kids. All classes are by open enrollment for children ages 12 and under.
