Show Page 14 The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume II, Issue V February 2000 Announcements Missionaries Elder Mac Christensen, son of Layne and JoAnn Christensen of Eden has been called to serve in the Brazil Ribeirao Preto Mission. His farewell address was held on January 9 at the Liberty 3rd Ward. Sister Chrisi Hales, daughter of Ken and Sandra Hales of Eden has been called to serve in the Portugal Lisbon South Mission. Her farewell address was held on January 23 at the Liberty 3rd Ward. Elder Nathan M. Lund, son of Gary and Linn Lund of Huntsville has been called to serve in the New York Rochester Mission. His farewell address was held on January 23 at the Middleton Ward. Elder Bob Silver, son of Steve and Eileen Silver of Huntsville, returned form serving in the Switzerland Geneva Mission. His homecoming address was held January 16, at the Huntsville Ward. Sister Jenn Lynn Foy, daughter of Rick and Linda Foy of Eden has been called to serve in the Japan Tokyo South Mission. Her farewell address was held on January 30 at the Liberty 3rd Ward. Anniversaries Cheney Lee and Virginia Cheney of Eden celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their daughter’s home. They were married January 4, 1940, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. He was born on August 20, 1917, in Redmesa, Colorado to Frank and Chloe Cheney. He served an LDS mission in the Texas area from 1937 to 1939. He served in the Navy during World War II. He then moved to Ogden and has been a barber in the Ogden area for 50 years. He has been a member of the Weber County Mounted Sheriff Posse since 1953. Virginia was born on April 7, 1921, to Henry and Gertrude Tooley in Beaver, Iowa. She worked for Hill Air Force Base and the Forest Service for 23 years, retiring in 1982. Her interests include reading and making quilts for other people and charities. They served in the Oklahoma Tulsa LDS Mission from 1985 to 1986. Their children and their spouses are Terry and RaVae Cheney, Linda and Mike Gillespie, and Trent and Pam Cheney. They have eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Births Douglas and Kay Triplett of Huntsville had a baby girl on January 4. B.G. and Emily Fuller of Eden are the proud parents of Benjamin Gabriel born on January 11, weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz. Chad and Elizabeth Roberts of Huntsville had a baby boy on January 14. Paul and Lori Birkbeck of Eden had a baby boy, Alexander David Birkbeck, on January 16. Kevin and Jean Jones of Liberty had a baby boy on January 22. Obituaries Mary Jean Crezee Johnson HUNTSVILLE – Mary Jean Crezee Johnson, 75, of Huntsville died Thursday, January 13, 2000 at the Washington Terrace Care Center. She was born June 20, 1924 in Ogden, the daughter of John Wesley and Edna Elizabeth Johnson (Berlin) Crezee. She was raised in Huntsville and attended school there until the age of 16. She graduated from Ogden High School. In January 1944, she married George Elwin DeLong, they were later divorced. On February 7, 1955 she married Edward Gustave Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They made their home in Huntsville and raised their seven children there. She worked at the Defense Depot Ogden during WWII and later at the Ogden Service Center, IRS. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various auxiliary teaching positions, as pianist and in the Singing Mother’s choral group. Her life’s work and great joy was among the youth of the community. She spent nearly 40 years with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in various positions including trainer for volunteer leaders, which position she held until failing health prevented her from continuing. Under her guidance, scores of young men advanced through the ranks of scouting, including her own four sons and five of her grandsons who earned the Eagle rank. She was recognized with both the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. She was also a tireless 4-H leader and served in that organization for nearly 30 years. She was named Outstanding Tri-County 4H Leader of the Year. She was active in her community, serving as voter registrar for many years, on the 4th of July Celebration Committees, PTA, and other civic service, most recently helping to preserve Huntsville Town History. Family and family research were her life-long passions. She spent much of her free time in genealogical research, family organization and reunions, and served a mission as a Research Director at the Ogden Family History Center. Her many talents, which she willingly shared, included music, handwork of all types, graphic arts, porcelain work, professional cake decorating, and a deep and abiding love of nature, great curiosity, and a love of learning. She is survived by her four sons; Richard Duane (Lorna) Johnson, South Jordan; Lewis Edward (Pam) Johnson, Huntsville; Samuel Anthon (Sally) Johnson, North Ogden; Steve J. (Kristin) Johnson, Huntsville. Her three daughters: JaNene (Henry Blake) Buckway, Shoshone, Idaho; Cheryl Ann Curtis, Bartelso, IL; Virginia (Zachary) May, West Point, Utah. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers and one sister: Rulon (Lynada) Creeze, Firth, Idaho; Grand L. (Marilyn) Creeze, Mountain Green; and Deon (Charles) Tucker, Washington Terrace. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Varsel Gott, the Home Health Aide, who provided such gracious and special care for mom the past three years. The family Weddings is very grateful to Dr., Brent Williams for the years of care and support he provided, as well as the dignity and love of the final care that was provided by the nurses, aides, and Hospice personnel at Washington Terrace Care Center. Internment in the Huntsville Cemetery. Jacob William Broderick Our most precious little perfect son came to us for seven priceless hours on January 18, 2000. We have been truly touched by an angel. The moments were brief, the memories are permanent. For one so small you seem so strong. You’ll be in our hearts from this day on now and forever more. We will always cherish every moment we had with you. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to hold your tiny hands, kiss your sweet face and tell you that we love you. We miss you but look forward with great joy to the day when we will be reunited and will be together again as a “Forever Family”. Jacob is survived by his parents, Dave and Julie Broderick of Huntsville; his sisters Brooke and Amber; brothers Chase and Derek; grandparents Doug and Yvonne Hebdon of Salt Lake; Audrey and Arnold Oehrlien of Montpelier, Idaho; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who love him very much. He was preceded in death by his grandfather William Eugene Broderick. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the hospital and friends, family and neighbors for their most loving and caring compassion they have extended to our family. The warmth of your gracious compassion will bring joy to our hearts as we remember this most touching day. Internment, Huntsville Cemetery. Bryan and Jenn Littrell Jennifer Dawn Willsey and Bryan Jakob Littrell were united in marriage on January 14th at the Historic Radisson Hotel in Ogden. A dinner buffet and dance followed in the Crystal Ballroom that evening. Jenn is the daughter of Vance and Franki Willsey of Layton. Bryan is the son of Dara Littrell and Chuck Shurtleff of Huntsville and Paul and Sherrie Littrell of Roy. Serving as the bride’s best man was her brother Shawn Willsey, matron of honor was Camie Brimhall and Courtney Wallace and Leda Shurtleff were bridesmaids. Ryan Campbell served as best man for the groom with Kylie Dabb and Chuck Shurtleff as groomsmen. Jenn is a senior in Anthropology at Utah State University and is employed with Providence Assisted Living Center as a nurse’s aide. Bryan is in his 5th year of electrical school at the Ogden ATC, and is employed with Winward Electric. The couple enjoys the outdoors, rock climbing, wake boarding, camping, hiking, skiing and snowboarding together. Following a honeymoon trip to Jackson Hole, they will live in Logan.
