Biking Event Community Football Teams Slated to Raise Funds for Off and Injured Cyclists Running Football season has begun. Ogden Valley has a new director, Vern Hart. He would like to introduce this years three teams: The Midgets team, comprised of 12, 13 and 14 years old; The Pee Wees, ages 10, 11 and 12; and the Junior Mites with 7, 8 and 9 year old players. This age group has never played before. The first games were played August 21st at Eden Park. Eden Park will be sporting a score board, concession stand, and a playground for “future” players. A Special thank you is extended to the Eden Park Committee for supplying the teams with the great field and new facilities. The Junior Mites played Bear River, stamping out the competition with a winning score of 26 to 6! Great start guys! The Pee Wees beat North Ogden in a tense, nail biting, triple overtime win of 14 to 12. The Midgets had a rougher game, losing to Kaysville 0 to 30. Guaranteed, they will do better next game. A big thank you is also extended to a great coaching staff who puts in a lot of time and effort helping our young men. We also could not have done so well without our behind-the-scene parents who made our first Valley home games a great success. Serio Brothers and Wadman Construction made it possible for the teams to have new personalized jerseys and some, much needed, new equipment this season. More support in this area is always welcomed. The team members are dedicated young men who practice and play five days a week! We are expecting a great season. Come and support them at the next home game Saturday, September 25: Midgets at 8:30 a.m., Pee Wees at 10:15 a.m., and Junior Mites at 12:00 noon. By Shanna Francis A Ride For Life biking event has been scheduled for September 25, beginning at the Eden Park. The purpose of the ride is to help raise funds to help pay the medical bills incurred by the cyclists injured by a drunk driver in Davis County last May. A pancake breakfast will be served at 7:00 a.m. at the Eden Park. Rides will begin at 8:00 a.m. There will be four options for this ride: an easy eight-mile ride designed for families; a 30-mile tour of Ogden Valley for those wanting more miles without much of a climb; a 66 mile; and a 100 mile tour of Ogden Valley, a ride over Trappers Loop, a tour of Morgan Valley and a return trip over Trappers. A registration deadline has been set for September 18. If you register before this date, the cost of the ride will be $20.00 for adults, $5.00 for those under 12 years of age. If you register after the deadline, cost will be $25.00 for adults, $7.00 for those under 12 years of age. Cost for breakfast is $4.00. The non-refundable registration fee will provide you with an event Tshirt (guaranteed if you register by the September 18th deadline), several food and rest stops, route map and detailed cue sheet, and on-road and sag support. Cyclists are encouraged to wear a hard shell or ANSI/SNELL approved helmet, and clothing appropriate for the weather, and to bring their own bicycle that is in good operating condition, tools, patch kit, spare bike tubes and pump, 2 water bottles, extra snacks— such as energy bars, and sunscreen. Sponsors for the benefit ride are Bingham Cyclery, Bonneville Bicycle Touring Club, Grant Aagard & Realty Executives, and J&R Home Services. For more information, call Larry Carr at 621-5064.
