Show Volume XIX Issue XX The Ogden Valley news Page 5 November 15, 2011 Community Invited to Dance with the Junction Terrace Plaza Playhouse Announces the City Band—New Times for lessons and dancing Production of Scrooge—A Christmas Carol The sixteen-piece Junction City Big Band, directed by Steve Ericksen, presents their second WSU Dance Date of fall semester Saturday, November 19 in the Shepherd Union Building Ballroom at Weber State. Downbeat is at 8:00 p.m. but for those who need it, professional dance instruction by Margene Anderson will be offered at 7:00. Tickets are $1 for lessons and $5 for dancing per person. Expect to hear some Big Band versions of famous songs for lovers at this dance. Bring your special dance partner and see what happens. Light refreshments will be available. The band was organized in 1987 under the direction of Dr. K. Earl Ericksen, then chair of the Weber State Department of Music. Dr. Ericksen passed away July 12 at age 87. The conducting baton was passed on to his son Steve Ericksen. Steve has played the baritone saxophone with the band since the very begin- ning, so he is well-prepared to lead. The Swing-Era style dance band was formed specifically to give local musicians with big band experience an opportunity to continue playing for personal enjoyment as well as for community functions. Donating their time and musical skills, they have helped to keep the community “jumpin’” with the music of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sammy Kay, Freddie Martin, Harry James and other great swing era sounds. Lessons will begin promptly at 7:00. No one will be admitted to the lessons after that time so please make plans to come early and be included in this fun and fantastic experience. Dance downbeat at 8:00 p.m. Best dress is recommended, which includes shirt and tie for men. For more information about the band, contact Steve Ericksen at 829-4098 or <sericksen8@gmail.com> or added performances. Tickets are $12 and $10 for adults, and $9 and $7 for children. Regular ticket prices are discounted $1 for seniors and students. Season tickets are also available, which include seating in the reserved section for all seven shows. Cost for a season ticket is $70. Reserved tickets are available at Terrace Plaza Playhouse, which is located at 99 E. 4700 S. in Ogden.
