Learn how to sew together a plush sloth that can hang from any nearby “branch.” All supplies provided. July 29 & 30: The Eccles Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., Ogden will receive artwork in person from resident Utah artists for its 47th Annual Statewide Competition from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entry fee: $10/entry. Register at www.ogden4arts.org or 801-392-6935. Aug. 4: Book Discussion 4 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Branch Library. The book to be discussed is Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan. A young journalist suffering from an onset of odd symptoms is suddenly plunged into a month-long hospital stay that tests the limits of medical science and her own sanity. Eventually becoming the 217th person in the world diagnosed with anti-NMDA, a rare autoimmune disorder, Cahalan regains her grip on reality and describes her struggle to recover. See article on page 5 and the flier on this page. Aug. 9: The Eccles Art Center staff announces and invites the community to participate in “The Great Ogden Art Hunt”! Follow the Eccles Art Center on their website, Facebook page or on Instagram (#ogdenarthunt) to receive weekly clues. Follow the clues in a search through local Ogden galleries & businesses to find a hidden, secret artwork. Upload a photo of your guess thru the center’s website or a direct social media message (publicly posted or tagged guesses are not eligible). The first participant to find the hidden work of art will receive the work of art and a cash prize.
