Featured Artists at the Lorna Wattis Swanson Gallery at the Ogden Valley Branch Library Tom Bettin | Mixed Media Monotype & Oil Paintings: July 1 thru August 31 Tom Bettin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Utah in 1976. He also attended painting and printing master’s workshops in Santa Fe between 1985 and 2000. He recently retired from teaching Visual Art at Judge Memorial High School. Using monotype as a base, his images are subjected to several runs through the press creating a complexity that the average print does not usually endure. Occasionally, he further works the surface by adding chine collé (thin paper adhered with paste). The result is a wellplanned journey through an obscure yet somewhat familiar landscape. In addition, Bettin will display several oil paintings that produce a richly similar effect. Terry Pippin | Woodworking: July 1 thru August 31 - Terry Pippin is a wood worker based in Northern Utah. Upon retirement in 2011, he turned his newfound spare time to several lifelong interests: fly fishing and woodworking. A friend introduced Pippin to fish carving in 2017, which will be the focal point of his exhibit. On his artwork, Pippin says “it feels like the raw wood transforms into a living thing in my hands. I never get tired of that.” For more information regarding library programs or offerings, please contact library staff at 801-337-2660 or 801-337-2617. |
