Show The Ogden Valley news Volume XXV Issue XVIII Page 11 November 1, 2019 Weber High Theatre Department Presents This Year’s Community Foundation Helicopter Ball Drop Another Success Abba’s Hit Musical Mamma Mia On Monday, September 30, Blacksmith Village Kicking off its 2019 Main Stage season, The Weber High Theatre Department is thrilled to bring ABBA’S glittering musical to Northern Utah. The winner takes it all. A young girl’s search for her birth father takes a hilarious turn as it brings three men from her mother’s past back to the Greek Island they last visited 20 years ago. This charming trip-down-the-aisle tale is chock full of explosive dance numbers, ABBA’s best hits, and non-stop laughs. This production boasts the biggest cast the WHS stage has ever seen. Even more students involved than NEWSIES of 2018. With a cast and crew of just under 200 students, you won’t want to miss the excitement of this production. Mamma Mia! has proven its popularity worldwide as both a musical and then a film. Propelled by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s music, audiences can’t help but fall in love with this fun, feel-good production. Mamma Mia! is directed by Weber High School Drama teacher Mark Daniels and choreographed by Lindsey Poll with music direction by Scott Wood. Performances are 7:00 p.m. November 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, and 11 with a Saturday matinee November 9 at 2:00 p.m., which will feature a “sing-along” screen where the audience can dress up and sing along with the cast. Mamma Mia! the ABBA hit musical, features the music and lyrics of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson; the book is by Catherine Johnson. The musical will be held at Weber High School’s auditorium, 430 W. Weber High Dr., North Ogden. For tickets, call 801-476-3769 or visit <www.weberhightheatre.com> Tickets are $6 for children, $9 for students and seniors, $11 for adults, $12 for premium center seats if purchased online. Tickets are no longer available online one hour prior to performances. IMPACT FEES cont. from page 1 assessments to cover operations. Ron Lackey, Volunteer President of Eden Water Works commented, “We supply excellent quality water, and our water quality testing program, required by U.S. EPA and Utah Division of Drinking Water (DDW), protects the homeowner and their family.” Liberty Pipeline in the northwest of the valley requires a multi-step process, following an impact fee study several years ago. As described on their website, each new customer for culinary and secondary service applies for a 1.25 acre-foot allotment from Weber Basin Conservancy district, to be co-owned between the customer and Liberty Pipeline, and separately assessed charges annually with property taxes billed by Weber County. The Weber Basin allotment is then filed with the Utah State Engineer’s office as an exchange application to the Liberty Pipeline wells, increasing the water rights assigned to wells. In addition, Liberty Pipeline charges a $14,400 impact fee (reflected as a non-certificated share) and a $4,000 connection fee (including meter). Powder Mountain Water and Sewer Improvement District (at website pmwsid.org) shows engineering and financial studies and rate sheets (2018) with water service impact fees of $8,048, and a separate variable hook-up fee of $2,950 minimum (based on meter size); thus, their total is currently lower at $10,998. Powder Mountain District Manager Roy Watts stated, “Our water impact and connection fees are being reviewed by our engineer at the moment, and we expect an increase following completion of the impact fee study.” If you have any questions regarding Wolf Creek Water service or the district’s new impact fee system, please contact Chair Wolf Creek District, Miranda Menzies at menzies.miranda@gmail.com or 801-745-2793. This statute specifies the process that must be followed, and how the fees may be charged. Impact fees are charged for new development, or building starts on lots where impact/connection fees were not paid at the time of original platting. An increased impact fee in Wolf Creek District will go into effect November 6, 2019 at a level of $13,983. The Wolf Creek connection fee, also payable for new construction, will be $1,017. The total new secondary impact/ connection cost is therefore $15,000. The corresponding Wolf Creek total culinary impact charge is currently $2,500 but is under review by the engineer and financial advisor. A review is recommended every 3 to 5 years, especially if new information applies. As current chair of the Wolf Creek District Board, I have commented before, “In order to protect our current customers, we have established impact fees that make sure builders and developers cover the real costs of infrastructure needed to support new development. Information circulated by John Lewis that the Wolf Creek Water and Sewer District plans to raise monthly water fees for homeowners is incorrect. The Board puts our current customers first and tries to protect them from the negative effects of development.” Eden Water Works (EWW) increased its charges (share charge, installation and impact fee) for culinary services in February 2019 to $18,292, and subsequently reduced the impact fee portion from $9,500 to $4,500, for a new total of $13,892. Separate secondary water service is required for new EWW customers, and may be from a range of irrigation companies across the EWW system footprint, each with its own additional share costs, and subsequent several hundred people gathered to watch Community Foundation of Ogden Valley’s (CFOV) 4thannual Helicopter Ball Drop. This over-thetop fundraiser was held in conjunction with Valley Elementary’s Fall Food Truck night, and brought in over $10,000 to add to the CFOV Matching Fund. After an evening of enjoying live music from local favorites “ Mothers of Mayhem” and Jaycee Dunyon, and chowing down on tasty food truck delicacies, the crowd watched a helicopter fly overhead and drop buckets of golf balls onto the school’s field. There were 27 lucky winners of prizes, including season passes to Snowbasin, a week stay in the Florida Keys, Stay and Play packages with Wolf Creek, a bike from Biker’s Edge, and a Stand-up Paddleboard. Winners were selected if their purchased ball landed closest to the target on the field. CFOV will take the donations made and add to other funds gathered throughout the year, and distribute the money to 17 hard-working local nonprofit organizations—NPOs that make our Valley amazing. On our CFOV website cfovoverdrive.org, all of the NPOs are listed and described. The CFOV contributes to everything from parks, PTOs, valuable open space, OVERT and K-9 Search & Rescue to Boy Scouts of America, Mountain Arts & Music, Pathways and more.
