Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XXV Issue VI May 15, 2018 Announcements Birthday Florence Smith Mumford Florence Mumford Florence Smith Mumford of Huntsville, born May 14, 1923, celebrated her 95th birthday at a garden party in Kaysville attended by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister, Cleo and Ila; and sister-in-law Jeane. She is grateful for good health that allows her to live in her own home with help from her sons Jim (Kathy), Gary (Brenda), Rex (Debbie), and Scott (Doris); and daughter Julie (Brett) Wilding. Her posterity now numbers 90, including spouses. Florence was born and raised by Clarence and Selma (Mortensen) Smith in Huntsville, sharing a duplex with her Smith grandparents. Florence was a World War II bride, marrying Art Mumford of Sunset, Utah. They lived in Baltimore until he was transferred to the Alaskan Highway. She then came to Ogden and lived with friend Norma Taylor’s family. They were lifetime friends. Snowbasin was also recognized in early May for the new SAFERmtn Team Initiative. The SAFERmtn Team is a safety initiative that was introduced during NSAA Safety Month and continued through the season and beyond. The resort-wide program involved both employees and guests based on the mantra: Our Mountain – Our Community – Our Responsibility. There was a consistent message around the resort, pins worn by all staff, community engagement aspects, rewarding responsible skiers and riders, and a strong web/social media presence. All of these attributes helped improve the safety culture at the resort and Snowbasin hopes it will Florence and Art built a home in Sunset and ran a fruit farm while raising four sons. In 1960 they moved to a farm in Huntsville where they built their own home and added a daughter to their family. Volunteer service has always been important to Florence. She volunteered at McKay Hospital and Ogden’s Union Station; and for D.U.P., 4-H, PTA, and the LDS Church. She served on the Morgan-Weber Board of Health and was active in the Democratic Party. Florence was honored as the 1991 Mother of the Year by the Weber County American Mothers. Hobbies have included sewing, gardening, reading, bicycling, camping, boating, fishing, and especially traveling. Florence took time to read and study before traveling to all fifty U.S. states and to many foreign countries, including Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco Africa, Israel, China, Fiji Islands, New Zealand, and Australia. Additionally, cruises took her to the Panama Canal and Central America. Art died following a tragic accident. Later, Florence married friend Carl Singleton. That marriage ended too soon after Carl suffered a heart attack. Florence appreciates good meals, visits from family and friends, and games of Pinochle. She enjoys living in her own home in Huntsville with a beautiful view—a bit of heaven on earth. continue to improve in the future. She was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Archie Van Thomas and Sylvia Mary Walker Thomas. She Colleen Long married her sweetheart Kenneth Arvon Long September 21, 1971 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission for the church in Chicago, Illinois, was in the Primary presidency, and worked decades as an extraction specialist, family search arbitrator, and was a temple worker at the Brigham City Temple. She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Colleen earned her Bachelor’s degree from Utah State and Master’s degree from Iowa State. She worked for the Utah State Extension office. She taught many students at Utah State and Weber State in her Cultural Foods and Child and Family Studies classes. She worked at the Weber County Health Dept. as a nutritionist, and retired Jeffrey Dale Baldwin November 25, 1961 ~ April, 25, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Dale Baldwin, age 56. He returned to his loving Father in Heaven Jeffrey Baldwin Wednesday, April 25, 2018 after a short battle with Leukemia while surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 25, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised by his two wonderful parents, along with four other siblings. His early life was spent in the Salt Lake City area and then up in Summit Park, where he helped his family build their dream home. It was apparent early in life that he was going to be a man of great ambition with a love of flying. He earned his pilot’s license before his driver’s license, a fact he was always very proud of. He attended Utah State University, after graduating from Highland High School, where he met his dream girl and future wife Deborah Lewis. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and then went straight to California to work on the construction of the B1 Bomber. While in California he had his first two children. They later returned to Utah where they had two more children and raised their family. During this time he held a multitude of jobs and mastered them all. Jeff would eventually become a professor at Utah State University teaching in the A&P program where he was able to combine both his love of flying, teach- as the assistant director for WIC. Colleen enjoyed singing both in the LDS Ward choir and the Ogden Valley Chordettes. She also enjoyed playing and teaching piano, sewing, quilting, researching family history, gardening, shopping, and traveling. She passed many of these talents on to her daughters and others through 4-H. Her greatest joy was spending time with and playing games with her family. Colleen is survived by her daughters Camille (Scott) Hurst, Denise (Brandon) Hadfield, and Sharilee (Jacob) Bailey; nine grandchildren: Kaitlin Hurst, Jacob Hurst, Chandler Hurst, Alexis Hurst, Kaleb Hadfield, Megan Hadfield, McKenna Bailey (Tyler) Westbroek, Madison Bailey, and Kylee Bailey; and two sisters, Madelyn T. (Marvin) Evans and Karen (Dennis) Jackson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and parents. The family would like to give special thanks to the LDS Hospital Leukemia Unit, Loveland Clinic, McKay Dee Infusion Center, IHC Palliative, and Hospice Care. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Huntsville Utah LDS Stake Center, 6500 E. 1900 N., Eden, Utah. Interment, Eden Mt. View Cemetery, Eden, Utah. He was a man who lived and loved in a very practical way. He exemplified the meaning of charity in everything he did in his life through selfless service. Jeff is survived by his wife, Deborah Baldwin, and his four children: Mark (Valisa), Matthew, Maria (David), and Michael (Amanda). He is also survived by his mother Carol Brady Baldwin, his sisters Julie Ann Lynch Payne and Carolyn Baldwin Taylor. He also has five beautiful grandchildren. Jeff was preceded in death by his two brothers, Mitchel Dale Baldwin and Tracey Dale Baldwin; as well as his father Dale Claude Baldwin, brother-in-law James Ray Lynch, and sister-in-law Christina Lewis Christensen. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the LDS Fruitland Acres Ward building, 465 N. 300 E., Providence, Utah.
