Help find them all and win! Prizes will be awarded. For all ages. Mt. Ogden Midweek Bike Race at Snowbasin Resort Offers Fun for All Ages Snowbasin Resort continues to host the Mt. Ogden Midweek Bike Race Series this summer. There will be ten races starting Wednesday, June 20. The races will continue through Wednesday, August 29, with the exception of no race on Wednesday, July 4. This is a race that is fun for all abilities and all ages. Registration starts at 5:00 p.m. and the races start at 6:30 p.m. There is a $15 registration fee each night, and a one-time plate fee for $10 for adults. A competitor can purchase the whole season and save money. A Race Series membership is $125 and includes 10 races, plate fee, and summer gondola pass. There are categories for both men and women, including Pro, Expert, Sport and Beginner. Snowbasin even offers a race for the kiddos that starts at 6:45 p.m. Race registration for the kids’ race is $5 per night with a $10 onetime plate fee. New this season, Snowbasin will offer food and beverage for purchase on Earl’s Plaza at the Plaza Pick-Me-Up Cart from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The races are a perfect place to bring the family to cheer the bikers on and grab a bite to eat in the cool mountain air. Tim Eastley, Terrain Parks Manager says, “We are excited to offer the Mt. Ogden Midweek Bike Race Series again this summer. After the immense growth in the number of participants during last season, we are enthusiastic to see who comes out this year. With more people joining the sport and the high school cycling teams growing, this is the perfect avenue for everyone to practice their skills in a fun, competitive manner. Each week we have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for both men and women in our four divisions: Beginner (5-6 miles), Sport (10-12 miles), Expert (15-18 miles), and Pro (15-18 miles). We also offer season point tracking for pro, expert, and sport classes and the leaders in those divisions all season wear a Hyperthreads leaders jersey each race night. Save the Date for the Ogden Arts Fest - June 9 & 10 The Ogden Arts Festival is getting our performances and activities together for June 9 and 10. The Ogden Arts Festival is an interactive experience at the outdoor Municipal Gardens and Amphitheater located in Ogden’s historic downtown district. Managed by Nurture the Creative Mind and held as a fundraiser for the organization, the event is complete with artist booths, music, theater, kid’s activities, a skateboard competition, urban arts area, and artisan food vendors. “We’re excited to solidify such talented acts, artists, and food for this year,” says Amir Jackson, founder of Nurture the Creative Mind, and Director of the Ogden Arts Festival. “The event kicks off the Northern Utah festival season and brings vendors, musicians, and visitors from all over the region to participate in a fun, family-friendly, and creative environment.” The entertainment line-up includes Josaleigh Pollet, Earthestra and Michelle Moonshine, along with theatrical performances from Grassroots Shakespeare Co. and Hopebox Theater. Headlining the evenings will be the sounds of Rumba Libre on Saturday and Show Me Island closing out the festival on Sunday. Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music Hosts Music Festival Featuring Award-winning Artists Once again, the Ogden Music Festival will be kicking off the summer festival season at Weber County’s beautiful Fort Buenaventura June 1-3. The Fort, located at 2450 “A” Ave. in Ogden, will be transformed into a worldclass venue, featuring big names in traditional Americana, and folk and bluegrass music. Steep Canyon Rangers, Lake Street Dive, IBMA Guitarist of the Year winner Molly Tuttle, Balsam Range, and rising bluegrass stars Sugar & The Mint, are just some of the artists taking the stage at this year’s festival hosted by Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music. The festival features plenty of traditional and contemporary bluegrass, folk and Americana music by national recording artists and more. Additionally, more than a dozen seasoned local artists will be showcased as “tweeners,” performing short sets between the major acts. The Ogden Music Festival is also host to the Utah State Instrument Championships (USIC) with open and novice divisions in flatpick guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle as well as open division fingerstyle guitar. Winners are eligible to compete at the National Instrument Championships, which take place at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. The competitions are free and open to the public. The USIC will be held Friday, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. Activities, local vendors, and community involvement are a big draw for festival goers. Returning to the Ogden Music Festival this year is on-site camping at the Fort, a Kids Zone, and a separate workshop stage featuring headliners and youth performers alike. Canoe rentals will be available at the pond and walking/biking trails surround the Fort. Ogden Bike Collective will provide a free bike valet for those who choose to ride their bikes to the festival. Vendors will include artists and crafters with original works, hand-made items, and other gifts—plus, a variety of local food and beverage offerings. Tickets are available online at <OFOAM. org> As always, kids 16 and younger are free. Tickets for the entirety of the festival are $65 if purchased before May 31; $70 June 1. Singleday entry to the festival is $35 and $40 at the door. Eccles Community Art Center Announces Call for Entry for Plein Air & Quick Draw Competitions The Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., Ogden, announces a call for entry for a Plein Air and Quick Draw Competition. These competitions are open to all interested in- and out-of-state artists. Original works painted or drawn between May 21 and May 28, 2018 are eligible for the Plein Air Competition. Original works created on June 19, 2018 between 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. are eligible for the Quick Draw Competition. Plein Air artists are limited to a total of three surfaces/work entries. Participation fees: $25 for professional category; additional entries (up to 2), $10 per entry; $15 for amateur works with a $5 fee per entry for additional submissions. Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity and are not refundable. Entries must be clearly identified by the artist with title, medium, and price/insurance value. Identification tags and result cards are provided to the artist when art work entries are received. Registration and stamping will be held May 21 thru May 25 at the Eccles Community Art Center. The boundaries for the competition are set to capture the historic architecture of Ogden and the natural beauty of Weber County. Artists may paint anywhere within Weber County. Subjects of the work may be outside the boundaries of Weber County as long as the artist paints within the county boundaries. Original plein air works will be accepted Tuesday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Eccles Community Art Center. Work will not be accepted after 5:00 p.m. May 29, 2018. Works must be framed and wired, ready for exhibit. A reception for artists, friends, and the community will be held Friday, June 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Art Center. The awards will be posted at this reception. Awards: Professional - First Place $1500, Second $750, Third $400; Amateur - First Place $300, Second $200, Third $100.
