Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XXIV Issue XX November 15, 2017 Announcements Obituaries Melvina Jackson Simmons July 20, 1925 ~ October 27, 2017 Melvina Jackson Simmons, 92, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, October 27, 2017. She was born July 20, Melvina Simmons 1925 to Melvin and Lila (Snowball) Jackson in Ogden (Wilson Lane), Utah. Melvina graduated from Weber High School in 1943. She married Theodore Lewis in 1947; they had two children and later divorced. She then married Max L. Simmons in 1967. She worked at Boyles Furniture, and later retired from Hill Air Force Base. Melvina’s hobbies included sewing, making porcelain dolls and teddy bears, and Bunka. Susan Eccles Denkers November 17, 1935 ~ October 23, 2017 Susan Eccles Denkers, 81, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017. She suffered from pancreatic cancer with strength and dignity for three years almost to the day. She was born November 17, 1935 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Willard L. and Ruth Pierpont Eccles. She attended Polk Elementary, Central Middle School and her beloved Ogden High, then graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, MO, in 1955. Susan was a founding member of the Willard L. Eccles Foundation and the Stephen G. and Susan E. Denkers Family Foundation. Susan was very active in the Ogden community; she became of member of the Junior League of Ogden in April of 1960, where she served valiantly as the Charity Ball Chairman, Rummage Sale Chairman, Vice President from 1972 to 1973, and President from 1974 to 1975. Susan started “Sub for Santa” in Ogden. She was an active member of Junior League Sustainers of the Deseret-Indian Wells, California. Susan was also a board member for the Salvation Army for 14 years, YWCA board member, and became President of YCC at its conception and served as President for two years and on the YCC committee in Ogden for 12 years. She was actively involved in the cause of Women’s and Children’s Health including Planned Parenthood, The Midtown Clinic, and The Ogden School Foundation. Susan She loved traveling all over the world with her daughter Kathy. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and camping and fishing. She was a member of the LDS church and attended the Roy 4th Ward. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alta Spencer, her husband, and grandson Little John Lewis. She is survived by her children Corey (Janet) Lewis, Kathy (Don) Hurford, and step-daughter Toni Simmons, her sister Patricia (William) Younger, five grandchildren—Kristy (Brad) Rochell, Ryan (Megan) Lewis, Scott (Jaclyn) Lewis, Nichole (Cory) Holliday, and Tiffany (Joey) Ellison; and five great-grandchildren. What a life she lived...kind, friendly, generous, spirited, without pretension in any way... Susan was always her own person. She was quietly proud of her heritage, but the very first to shun public accolades and fanfare of any kind. Always with a twinkle in her eye, Susan loved to laugh and was remarkably good natured. Susan married Stephen G. Denkers September 15, 1956 in Ogden, Utah. They were married 61 years and had two children—Julie Denkers-Bishop and Stephen E. Denkers. She had five beautiful and intelligent grandchildren. She enjoyed spending summers in Sun Valley, Idaho, and wintering in Indian Wells, California for 30 years. Steve and Susan traveled extensively worldwide. She also enjoyed playing a little golf, fly-fishing, and gardening. Susan is survived by her husband, Stephen G. Denkers, Ogden; son, Stephen Eccles Denkers, Salt Lake City and Kelly, Madison and Michael; daughter, Julie Denkers-Bishop and children, Ashley and Mathew, Salt Lake City; and sister, Barbara E. Coit-Yeager, Portland, Oregon. Graveside services were held Monday, October 30, 2017 at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Send condolences to the family at <www. lindquistmortuary.com> Lenora Harrop Lemon June 2, 1927 November 4, 2017 ~ Lenora Harrop Lemon, 90, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at home, with Lenora Lemon her family by her side. Lenora was born June 2, 1927, in Willard, Utah, a daughter of Raymond Earl Harrop and Mabel Ipsen Harrop. She grew up in Willard and graduated from Box Elder High School. Lenora met her sweetheart, Lowell, in Willard. They were married August 12, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children. She lived in Willard all her life. Her hobbies included, canning, needlepoint, and doing handwork projects, family parties and holidays. Her favorite hobby was to read. Lowell Skeen Peterson July 20, 1937 ~ October 29, 2017 Lowell Skeen Peterson passed away October 29, 2017 at the age of 80 due to complications related to cancer. He was born July Lowell Peterson 20, 1937, the fifth of six children, to Rulon Powell and Naomi Skeen Peterson. He was raised in Weber County and graduated from Weber High School in 1955 as class salutatorian. He served in the New England LDS Mission from 1957 to 1959. Just nine days after returning from his mission, he married Kathleen Shurtleff in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Political Science and Economics and was intent on going to law school until J. Reuben Clark, Jr. encouraged him to continue his father’s profession as a cattleman with Peterson Bros. Herefords. Lowell succeeded in many professions over his eighty years: real estate developer, home builder, restaurateur, elected official, government relations, entrepreneur, and investor, but most of all he enjoyed being on his ranches in Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada where he loved to teach his sons and grandsons the value of hard work. Lowell served 14 years in elected office as a State Representative, State Senator, and Weber County Commissioner. He served on many boards and councils and especially enjoyed serving on the Board of Trustees at Utah State University, including two years as chairman; the Weber School District Foundation, the Utah State Fair Board, and as a founding member of the Weber County Fair Board. Lois Marie Williams January 6, 1952 ~ November 4, 2017 On the morning of Saturday, November 4, 2017, Lois Marie Palmer Williams slipped into eternity while her loving husband Blaine sat at her bedside holding her hand. Marie was born January 6, 1952 in Ogden, Utah to Kenneth and Lois Palmer. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1970. Marie married Blaine Williams for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah LDS Temple October 21, 1971. Together they made their forever home in Roy, Utah, and welcomed six children into their family. Mom loved the holidays and always made an effort to “go all out.” She created incredible extravagant Easter egg hunts, Halloween costumes, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, and still had a way to make each family member feel uniquely special on their birthday. She Surviving are her children: Elizabeth (Ed) Kulbacki, Richard (Beth) Lemon, JoAnn (Richard) Day, Kent (Cathy) Lemon, Annette (Winston) Sales; 22 grandchildren; and more great and great-great-grandchildren than we can count. Preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; daughter, Helen Marie; son-in-law, Winston Sales; and two grandsons, Ryan Kulbacki and Scott Lemon. With deepest appreciation, the family would like to thank Heidi Moffit, for her loving friendship, care and companionship of our mother through the years. Also, a special thanks to Dorothy Ward, for her compassionate service; thanks to Aspen Ridge Home Health Care and Hospice for Utah. Funeral services was held Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Willard Peak Ward Chapel, 7615 S. 665 West, Willard, Utah. Interment will be in the Willard Cemetery. Lowell served in many capacities in the LDS Church, including Bishop of the Roy 11th Ward, many years on High Councils, in the Young Men’s Organization, as a service missionary to the Ogden Pioneer Ward and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He also served in various adult leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America over many years for which he was honored with the Silver Beaver award by the Trapper Trails Council. Dad had a great love of music and was talented in singing and playing the trumpet. Dad could burst into song at any time, especially in greeting his children and grandchildren. Fittingly, in his later years he wrote words and music to a hymn that spoke of his love for family and testimony of the gospel. Lowell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen; his brother, Wayne (Joan), Salt Lake; his children: Dale (Cindy), Layton; Laurie (Daniel) Kite, Hooper; Lisa (John) Powell, St. George; Lorna (Shaun) Oborn, Nibley, Idaho; Doug (Cathy), Riverdale; MaryAnn (John) Christiansen, Riverdale; and Emily (Wes) Whitby, Uintah; and 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings and spouses: Ronald (Margaret) and Darrell, Janice Child (Earl), and Marilyn Ellis (LeGrande). Despite Dad’s involvement in so many different business endeavors, church, and community commitments, his greatest love and greatest investment of time has always been in his wife, children, and grandchildren. Marie was a strong woman; after all, she raised five boys! Even as her health declined, her quick sense of humor never faded. She had an intelligent wit and loved when her boys would tease her. She knew how to give it right back! Her discernible gift for unconditional love made her a wonderful mother and friend to all of those who knew her. Marie had a strong testimony of our Savior and his plan of eternal families. It is joyous to imagine the elation Marie feels as she reunites with her parents, Ken and Lois Palmer, and her cherished, five-year-old daughter, Dawn Marie. Marie will forever be remembered and loved by her eternal companion, Blaine Williams, along with their surviving sons and family: Jason (Holly), Brandon (Jacqueline), Bryon (Steve), Jeremy (Candice), and Jamie (Emilee); and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sister: Steven (Kathy) Palmer, Bruce (Susan) Palmer, Owen Palmer, and Karen (Brian) Belnap, who, joined by their children, will lovingly treasure their sister’s memory. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S., Roy, Utah. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
