Ogden Valley Founding Families by Surname As Listed on 1870, 1880 & 1900 Censuses—Includes Huntsville, Liberty and Eden Please note that the names in bold (roughly 140) are from the 1900 census. Many descendants of these families (in bold) can still be found in Ogden Valley today. Nearly half the founding families (roughly 250) recorded in prior census had left the Valley by the 1900’s., including Huntsville’s own name sake— Jefferson Hunt. Some of the names on this list are misspelled due to spelling errors made by the census taker or from mistakes made endeavoring to decipher the census taker’s handwriting. This, unfortunately, creates some redundancy and ambiguity.
