Ogden Canyon Paving Scheduled for Ogden Valley Balloon & Artist Festival Planned for August 15, 16 & 17 June 19 – 23: Partial and full closures announced The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists that a short duration paving project will begin on state Road 39 in Ogden Canyon beginning June 19. From Thursday night, June 19, through Tuesday morning, June 24, crews will pave a section of SR-39, the Ogden Canyon Highway, from the Indian Trail near the mouth of the canyon to the Alaskan Inn. This paving is a part of the final phase of work related to last summer’s Ogden City Water Line project through Ogden Canyon. This work will be conducted according to the following schedule: From Thursday, June 19 to Friday, June 20, one lane will be closed in the canyon with alternating traffic directed by flaggers from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. as crew’s lower utility accesses and make preparations for the paving work. Then, beginning Saturday night, June 21 and Sunday night, June 22, pavement removal and paving operations will be accomplished with a complete closure of SR-39 in the canyon from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night. During these closures, traffic must detour over alternate routes, such as SR-167, the Trappers Loop Highway, via Interstate 84 through Weber Canyon, or via North Ogden Canyon Road, the so-called “North Ogden Divide.” Access will be maintained for canyon residents during this complete closure. Finally, on Monday night, June 23, one lane will be closed with alternating traffic directed by flaggers from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. as crews restore utility accesses to their pre-project levels. Once this project is complete, a chip seal project will be conducted in July to seal the roadway surface. Stakeholders with questions about this project can contact the project hotline at 801-419-8786. Construction activities, dates, and times are subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen delays. The school is offering over $450,000 in scholarships to Utah high school seniors graduating this year through a tuitionfree enrollment available to one student at each of the 152 approved Utah high schools. “We are very excited about our scholarship program and the opportunity it offers to graduating seniors who are just embarking upon their career path,” said Career Step CEO Steve Tober. “Our scholarship program is designed to help graduating seniors realize that education can improve their lives even if college is not the right path. We have made the decision to extend the deadline to allow more time for students to learn about and take advantage of this great opportunity.” The new August 31 deadline gives students the summer to further consider their post-high school plans. To be eligible, students need only have graduated or be graduating in 2014 and submit a 200 to 500 word essay on why pursing additional education after high school is important to them at CareerStep.com/utah-scholarship by the new August 31 deadline. The over $450,000 in tuition Career Step hopes to award will be divided among students from the 152 schools on the approved list, which includes public, charter and alternative SCHOLARSHIP cont. on page 7 Pictured above is the Memorial Day Ceremony held at Eden, Liberty, and Huntsville by the American Legion Post 129.
