Girls will enjoy making a variety of age-appropriate crafts from wands and ribbon sticks to customized flip flops and hair accessories. Girls will also learn how to decorate cakes and make delectable treats. The week will end with a fabulous lemonade party where the girls can enjoy the tasty treats they have learned to make! What would a glitter camp be without face painting, glitter art, and glitter nails? Join us for this one-of-a kind sparkly experience. This camp will run June 17 thru June 21, 9:00 a.m. to noon. The cost is $85, plus $15 for supplies and materials. Super Heroes Camp - Super heroes unite! Join us for a fun-filled week of daring challenges and hair-raising experiences as you train to become a super hero. This camp includes making your own customized cape, completing lots of obstacle courses to develop quick reflexes and strong muscles, and working on lots of scientific experiments like “flubber” to strengthen your super hero brain. Tadpoles to Trex - Join us for a week of discovery as we explore dinosaurs, reptiles, and our amphibian friends of the past, present, and future. Valley Elementary WSU Helen Ritchey Science Fair Winners By Denver Dalpias, Valley Elementary 6th grade student reporter Recently Valley Elementary Science Fair winners went on to compete in the Junior Helen Ritchey Science Fair. There were many prizes awarded to participants from Valley Elementary. The awards for some participants are as follows: The two honorable mentions from our school were given to Maya Thurston and Taylor Booth. Three of the excellence awards were awarded to Sydney Christopherson, Koby Pack, and Brigham Tuttle. The 3rd place win- ners, which won $15 dollars in cash and a $100 Weber State University scholarship, were Emma Goodson and Kellie Albrechtsen. And last, but not least, were Joshua Cox and McKenna Best, who each won $25 dollars in cash and $200 in scholarships. Congratulations to everyone who competed in the science fair. We also would like to thank Lagoon for giving free tickets to everyone who placed in order to continue on to the Weber State Science Fair. Lagoon has been partnering with Valley School 6th grade for over 20 years. Thank you Lagoon for rewarding our young scientisits! Community Invited to Enter 3rd Annual Patriotic Essay Contest for 4th of July Celebration This year’s them for the 4th of July Third Annual Patriotic Essay Contests hosted by Huntsville Town is “Sweet Land of Liberty.” The prize for a First Place win is $200; Second Place, $150; and Third Place, $100. Those from the Ogden Valley community, including Ogden Canyon, ages 12 to 100+ are invited to enter. Recycled Art and Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition The Eccles Community Art Center in Ogden is announcing a call for entry for a competition for Utah students ages 12 through 21 to participate in the Second Annual Recycled Art & Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition. The Carriage House Gallery will feature the paintings of Kristin Jamieson and the Black and White Photography of Wally Schmidt. A reception is scheduled in association with Ogden’s Art Stroll on May 3, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with light refreshments served from between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. The art remains on exhibit through June 1. Artist Lauri Eskelson explains, “My paintings are a visualization of my connection with the land. For this show, the landscapes are created from my time painting on location in southern Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, and my beautiful Morgan Valley—along with a couple of horse scenes thrown in for good measure. There is even a scene from our visit to Japan last spring. These are places that have touched my heart and soul, and instill in me a desire to share the “beauty of the moment” with others—thus, the reason for their creation.” “My paintings represent places, people, or animals that have inspired me, perhaps because of the light or the beauty of what I see. I try to capture an emotional quality in my paintings that is unique to the subject,” said Bonnie Frucci. Roberta Glidden indicates, “This show has inspired three new directions for me.
