Show Volume XX Issue XXII The Ogden Valley news Page 7 March 1, 2013 Jason Thomas: Ace Home Repair and Maintenance & Thomas Iron & Art Jason Thomas owns Ace Home Repair and I strive to make sure that my work is of good Maintenance and Thomas Iron and Art. He recently moved to Huntsville near Anderson Cove with his wife Joli and their two children James and Josephine. Jason states, “We absolutely love this place. There is a near endless supply of fun to be had here, and we have met some wonderful people. I am looking forward to building friendly and working relationships in this area.” Jason is from a rural area in North Carolina located just south of Fayetteville, the home of Fort Bragg. He comes from a conservative twojob working family and started working when he was very young. “When I was 13, my first job, outside of chopping firewood and working on a local farm, was working for a local mechanic. I was allergic to tobacco, so I was spared the lowpaying jobs in the fields with all of my friends. The first job did not pay very well, so the next summer, my dad found me a job with a local contractor and I went to work installing insulation in homes. Years later, I read in a newspaper that it was rated the second worse job in America at the time. Cropping tobacco was considered the worse job in America, so I considered myself fortunate. Since then, I managed to work on most everything on a house—from the bottom up,” He said. Jason went to college in 1996 at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado and fell in love with the west and with his wife Joli. He states, “I worked four different part-time jobs as an apartment manager, a security guard, a school store-clerk and did the occasional job as a contractor remodeler for the school.” He graduated in 1999 with a BFA, Summa Cum Laude, and ran an art gallery and store for a year. Jason explained that, “things did not work out in Denver, so we moved back to North Carolina to re-group.” Jason found work as a subcontractor, and as an educator for a short period of time and, eventually, found a job working as a home inspector. He was trained by America’s number-one inspection company and within five years had his own business performing 450 to 500 inspections a year. In a twelve-year time period, he had completed over 5,000 inspections and gained 180 hours of education on local and national code, and product installation requirements. Jason states, “I started repairing homes and enjoyed the satisfaction of supplying homeowners with my expertise and also helping them to resolve issues. “As an inspector and a repairman, I soon found that there are common issues with homes no matter how old they are. Products are not always installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, which consequently results in voiding the manufacturer’s warranty—and sometimes causes significant damage to parts of the home. I have seen houses in a variety of price ranges and have found that most of them have something wrong in some way. I have inspected, repaired, remodeled, and customized homes throughout the years, resulting in the repair business I have today. quality and is made to last.” Ace Home Repair and Maintenance specializes in home repair including exteriors, roofs, decks, finished interiors, remodeling and home maintenance, such as painting, yards, gutter cleaning, etc. The art business specializes in decorative and functional works in metal, metal fabrication, blacksmithing, ceramics, photography, painting, and portrait drawing. He is hoping to eventually make his a family business. Jason states that his wife and kids are also artists and together, as parents, they encourage their children’s talents. He has incorporated the art portion of the business with the construction part of the business. After spending a few years working as a finish carpenter, Jason explains he became bored with the limited types of trim that was offered and found that people weren’t investigating the possibilities of incorporating art into their home interior and exterior. “If they did buy art, most were buying cheap prints and spending more on getting them framed than what they were worth. They were trying to find their own style, but looking in the wrong places for it,” said Jason. Jason states, “I started imagining homes with decorative wood and steel incorporated in the building or remodeling process, which gives a home its unique character that accents and blends with the architecture. It simply requires thinking outside of the box. For example, take an average corner in a home or kitchen that has never really served a good purpose and add something decorative and functional that works with the individual’s lifestyle. I like to think of these spaces as potential energy—areas that lie in wait until you make it work for you, and then it becomes kinetic—and part of your experience, giving back to you and to your home décor. We can customize any space to make it suit an individual’s needs.” “I am glad to be working and living here in the valley and appreciate all of the support I have received from my neighbors and from the LDS Second Ward in Huntsville. Everyone has helped us in some way when we couldn’t quite do some things on our own and they have asked nothing in return.” He said he feels truly blessed to be here and is excited about making this year prosperous and adventurous for his family and business. Jason states, “If you have a problem with your home or business; or are looking to remodel or incorporate your lifestyle into your home, give me a call and I’ll help you find a solution that suits your needs.” Jason can be reached at 801-4364961 or visit Ace Home Repair and Maintenance at www.acehomerepairut.com, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ace-HomeRepair-and-Maintenance/235459007199 or Thomas Iron and Art at <www.thomasironandart.com> Both businesses are registered with the State of Utah and are licensed and insured. MP USA Grows: Goes global trainer, yoga classes, martial arts classes, pri- For over 12 years, brothers Mike and Nate Zeleznick of Huntsville have been helping children and adults improve their health and athletic abilities through Merpati Putih, the Indonesian royal family’s system of breath work, meditation, exercise, and martial arts. As a truly unique health and fitness method found nowhere else in America, people have traveled from all over the world to Ogden to learn from the Zeleznicks and their professional training staff on how to defend themselves, improve various parts of their health, and develop a deeper energetic connection to themselves and the environment. On January 2, MP USA inaugurated their new 8,500 square foot academy at 1710 Wall Avenue with a public demonstration and Open House with over 100 guests in attendance. After two months of constant work they—and many wonderful volunteers—transformed what was once a grocery store into one of Utah’s largest and nicest training facilities. MP USA’s International Demo Team wowed the crowd with demonstrations of empty-handed as well as weapons forms and a breaking demonstration in which Mike Zeleznick set a new American record by breaking 15 iron bars. (The entire demo can be seen online at http:// mp-usa.org along with descriptions of the programs offered and a map to the new MP USA Academy.) Shortly after the inauguration, Mike Zeleznick began a six-month sabbatical in Indonesia to live and train with the Royal family of Java. He is learning directly from the highest ranking Merpati Putih practitioners in the world, receiving specialized training in a proprietary energy discipline designed to help blind people better sense their surroundings and accomplish awareness no other treatment can offer. Already he has received training reserved only for members of the royal family. He will be bringing even more effective and life-changing training methods back to Utah to further assist students from 5 to 75 years of age, helping them improve their health, internal knowledge, energy awareness, and inner peace. While there are many practices that improve the lives of people on different levels, only Merpati Putih offers such drastic changes in so many areas of life so quickly and for such a wide range of people. MP USA has four different programs available to suit nearly anyone, and helping them achieve their personal goals; The Athletic Adventure Program As MP USA’s flagship martial arts program, the Athletic Adventure Program (AAP) provides benefits and results that would otherwise require a gym membership, personal vate meditation training, and a personal breath work consultant to match. MP USA provides it all in one place. Classes are semester-based and only start in April and October. Every candidate must pass a three-lesson trial to join. Trial programs start March 4, March 11, and March 18, and run Monday through Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. Appointments are required. The Wealth of Health - The Wealth of Health is a low-impact exercise and breath-work course originally designed for people over 40 who aren’t interested in martial arts. Utahn’s from 14 to 70 have been enjoying the benefits of this class since 2005, and regardless of age or fitness level, members regularly reach new heights of performance, fitness, and overall health. Free classes are available. See below for more details. PERSILAT Youth Martial Arts - At MP USA, staff members work side-by-side with parents to guide children toward being the most empowered and capable people they can be. Each and every class contains a perfect balance of intense physical fitness and life-saving skills, as well as a character development and leadership program that is designed to transfer everything children learn in classes such as respect, discipline, and confidence into daily life. Every child starts with a three-lesson trial series to make sure they’ll love it. Intro programs are available every two weeks and appointments are required. Women’s Self Defense Workshops - MP USA’s expert selfdefense specialists teach an entire arsenal of principles that can be used in virtually any situation, ranging from how to escape an assault, all the way to how to disable an attacker permanently regardless of age, size, or athletic ability. Workshops are held at the MP USA Academy on a Saturday afternoon, twice per year, in spring (April) and fall (October). Through the month of March, MP USA is offering free Wealth of Health classes to anyone age 15+ who would like to experience for themselves just how much the Merpati Putih method improves lives. No previous fitness or meditation experience is required. The free classes will be held throughout March on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The dates are March 6, 13 and 20. To experience this personally (or to enroll in either the Athletic Adventure or PERSILAT Youth trials), call Program Director Wendy Kern at 805-2082700 or email MP USA at <info@mp-usa.org> An eye-opening experience awaits that cannot be found anywhere else in the nation.
