Also to be thanked are Laura and Hannah Warburton for manning the ticket and sign-in desk all morning, and our great cooks who so willingly flipped hamburgers: Matthew Bell, Commissioner Kerry Gibson, and Lt. Kevin Burns. There are too many to thank, but all are appreciated. It is still not too late to make a difference this year. Please continue the effort to dig, pull, cut, spray, and/or mow down existing dyers woad. If the now-forming green seeds are still soft and pliable, the weed can be left on the ground. If darker, more mature seeds are ripening, please bag and remove the seeds for proper disposal. Dyers woad will continue to spread and take over the Valley’s surrounding lowlands, uted to the volunteers who joined together for lunch after working hard all morning, the Eden Park Board for the use of the facilities, and to those who offered their time and resources in assuring the success of this effort by attending meetings for the organization of this critical ongoing effort; planning, donating, and lugging over all of the amenities and food for the delicious lunch; and running errands to ensure everything was ready to go smoothly Saturday fields, hillsides, and mountainsides unless there is a concerted effort to stop its aggressive and destructive proliferation. While much has been done to slow the spread of dyers woad in Ogden Valley, there is still much work to do. Please don’t become complacent; continue to do your part to eradicate dyers woad. And please give a gentle nudge to your neighbors, if need be. Have You Ever Wanted To Try Yoga? Beginning classes begin June 12 What is Yoga? The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. In ancient times, the desire for greater personal freedom, health and long life, and heightened self-understanding gave birth to this system of physical and mental exercise that has since spread throughout the world. The word Yoga means “to join or yoke together,” and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience. There are many different types of yoga. Just to name a few, there’s Hatha, Raja, Jnana, Karma, Tantra. Who can practice yoga? Yoga is suitable for most adults of any age or physical condition. Because of the non-strenuous nature of our approach to exercise, even those with physical limitations can find a beneficial routine of Yoga. What is the best way to get started? Find a qualified teacher, or get a book or video, study the type of yoga you would like to try, and just go for it. Valley Dance and Fitness is now offering a beginner course. This four-week class is perfect to help you get acquainted with the basic poses, breathing techniques, and path towards peaceful meditation. The class is one hour with a certified yoga instructor who teaches and guides you through the basics of yoga. Again, this class is just for beginners. It doesn’t matter what your body shape is, how flexible you are, your age or height, just come and try it. The beginning Yoga course begins June 12, and lasts for four weeks. Classes are held Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m. The cost is $20 for four classes. Weber High Girls’ Softball team captures state 5A title. WEBER SOFTBALL cont. from page 1 Then they faced the prospect of beating the team that had defeated them on Tuesday and having to beat them twice to claim the title. The first game looked to be another pitching duel until three errors in the fourth inning, combined with three hits led to a seven-run inning for Weber. The Grizzlies changed pitchers at the end of that inning, but the Warriors’ lead was too much to overcome. In the second game, Weber’s offense was led by Reichle again, who got on base on a single and then scored when a teammate was walked. The Grizzlies went back to senior Shelby Abeyta, who threw an impressive final game. Copper Hills actually tied the game in the second inning, but then catcherHaylee Chugg, who got on base on a walk, scored on an error to give the Warriors the lead again. “I just think this was a new experience,” said Copper Hills head coach Jentry Johnson. “My girls felt a lot of pressure. I could tell.” Still, advancing to the title game was something the program has never done. “We were riding an adreneline wave for several days, and when we made a few mistakes, we weren’t able to make those small adjustments,” she said. “It doesn’t take away from what they accomplished. I’m proud of every one of these girls.” Wade said the Warriors’ win was the perfect ending to the school year for the team and the community. “It’s huge,” she said as her son asked her if they were now the best in the world. “A championship means a lot to Weber High.” a price to pay (for losing Tuesday),” she said. “And we were prepared to pay the price.” That price was winning five softball games in two days, and Bull admitted that throwing so many pitches took a toll on her. But after losing Tuesday’s game on a wild pitch, she was prepared to do whatever was necessary to earn the state title for Weber High. “I definitely felt like I needed to help my team out,” said Bull, who wept as she hugged each of her five grandmothers who made the drive to watch her win the school’s first softball title. She said it helped that her coaches and teammates also admitted that the squad needed more offense so that all of the responsibility of winning didn’t depend on the future BYU pitcher. The team played well Wednesday and Bull said she felt confident all day Thursday. “I just woke up this morning, and I knew I was ready,” said the soft-spoken player. Still, she left nothing to chance. She went to her grandfather’s house (who also happens to be her pitching coach) and asked for a blessing. “He just gave me strength to keep going,” she said as tears streamed down her face and she cradled her swollen pitching hand. “I kept it with me all day.” As for being part of earning the school a softball title, she grinned through the tears, “It’s just the greatest thing in the world.” The trip to the special moment was fraught with obstacles.
