Show Volume XX Issue X The Ogden Valley news Page 7 June 15, 2012 Announcements Obituaries Alan E. Clapperton Alan Everett Clapperton, 63, passed away May 26, 2012 at McKay Dee Hospital. He was born January 23, 1949 in Oakland, California to Everett Claire and Janet H. Alan Clapperton Wheelwright Clapperton. Alan graduated from Oakland High School, Ricks College, and Weber State University. Alan married Ramona Sanderson on August 28, 1970 in Freedom, WY; their marriage was solemnized on November 29, 1975 in the LDS Ogden Temple. He was a member of the LDS Church where he served in the Elders Quorum Presidency, as Sunday School President, and in the High Priest Group Leadership. He was employed by Farmers Insurance as a Claims Liability Manager and Supervisor Faye Eudora Anderson Hawks Faye Eudora Anderson Hawks of St. George, Utah passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 27, 2012. She was 90 years old. She was born August 9, 1921 Faye Hawks in Syracuse, Utah to Arthur Raymond and Mary Alice Hill Anderson. Faye was raised in Syracuse with her siblings Raymond, Wayne, Mary, and Joseph. She married Norman Hawks in the Salt Lake Temple on March 31, 1942. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her passion was Temple Work and Family History. She loved scouting and helped many young men achieve their Eagle Scout Award. Faye also enjoyed crocheting afghans and making quilts, giving hundreds away. Her service to the St. George Senior Citizen’s Center was an important part of her life. She also loved to travel with her family, visiting over 50 countries. Faye was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Lawrence David Saunders Lawrence David Saunders passed peacefully back into the presence of his Father in Heaven on June 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Lawrence was born Lawrence Saunders April 14, 1919 in Ogden to Edward Thomas and Marcia Ann Slater Saunders. He was third of their 12 children. In 1940, Lawrence was called as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve in New Zealand and then the Northwestern States Missions. When he returned from his mission he met and married the love of his life, Alice Cheney. They were married by David O. McKay in the Salt Lake Temple on November 18, 1943. He served in the Navy during the Second World War. He was a master builder, enjoying working side by side with his father and brothers in the Saunders Construction Company. Lawrence built four homes in which the family resided. He established Ben Lomond Mobile Home Sales, which he successfully ran for many years. He also enjoyed being a beekeeper. Lawrence served as the Ben Lomond Stake Mission President, the last Bishop of the original Harrisville Ward, and the first Bishop of the Harrisville 2nd Ward. He also served on the High Council of the Farr West Stake. He and for 36 years; retiring in Jan. 2012. He had served as a Reserve Officer with the Weber Co. Sheriff’s Office, and as a member of the Weber Co. Search and Rescue Mounted Posse and snowmobile rescue. He currently served on the Huntsville Town Council and has been a board member on the Weber Fire District for the past 14 years. For the past 20 years he set off Huntsville’s 4th of July fireworks. Alan enjoyed snowmobiling and horseback riding. Alan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ramona; children, Kristi Dawn (Chris) Sandberg, Traci Lee (Aaron) Barney, Bryan Alan Clapperton, and Sandi Lyn (Cody) Farr; and 7 grandchildren with one on the way. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Huntsville 1st Ward, 277 S. 7400 E. Interment, Huntsville Cemetery. Family request donations be made to any American First Credit Union, to the account of Ramona Clapperton, to help with funeral expenses. Saints, and taught primary for over 50 years. She worked as a clerk/typist at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years. She lived in Clearfield, Utah; Middleton, Idaho; and Huntsville and St. George, Utah. She is survived by her children, Darlene (Robert) Kuck of Syracuse, David (Jenny) Hawks of South Ogden, Terry (Diana) Hawks of St. George, Monty (April) Hawks of St. George, Douglas (Judy) Hawks of West Valley, and Rick (Karla) Hawks of North Ogden. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Raymond and Wayne Anderson, daughter-in-law Maureen Brewer, son-in-law Robert Kuck, and great grandsons Isaac Hawks, Kade Allred, and Axel Hawks. Her testimony of Jesus Christ is an inspiration to her 6 children, 28 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the St. George 12th Ward Chapel 449 S. 300 E., St. George, Utah. Interment followed at the Syracuse City Cemetery. He also served in the Ogden Temple for more than 20 years. Lawrence was part of the leadership which established Harrisville City. He then served nine years on the City’s Planning Commission, and represented the city on a number of committees with Weber County. Lawrence was blessed with a great memory which allowed him to recite hundreds of memorized poems and scripture. He taught himself to play keyboard, and paint with oils. He danced the Hakka (a Maori war dance) entertaining family and friends for years. Lawrence and Alice are the parents of nine children: Darla (Reed) Fowers, Jeneen (Terry) Gardner, Karen (Mike) Doutre, David (Laura) Saunders, Cheryl (Dean) Hall (both deceased), Alene (Scott) Chambers, Sheila (Brett) Lewis, Mary Alice (Richard) Dredge, and Dean (Cheryl) Saunders. They have 34 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Marvin, and Carl; sisters Anna and Marcia; and daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Ann and Dean Hall. He is survived by his wife; his children noted above; his brothers Leland, Glen, and Darrell; and his sisters Marva, LouJean, and Ilene. The family very much appreciated the help they received from hospice, and two remarkable CNA’s, Jason and Shandie. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Harrisville 1st Ward, 435 W. Harrisville Road. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery where Military Honors were accorded. Joy McArthur Belnap Gladys Joy McArthur Belnap, 79, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 in Washington Terrace from congestive heart failure. Joy, as she was known all her life, was born November 11, 1932 in Ogden to Leslie Gale Joy Belnap McArthur and LaVern Hastings McArthur. She was educated in Ogden City schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1950. She attended Weber College and was affiliated with Chanodo Sorority. She married Gordon Leslie Belnap on July 11, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were divorced June 3, 2003 after 50 years together. Joy was a stenographer at the former Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield while her husband served with the Army in Korea. They resided in Salt Lake City for two years then moved to California for three years, living in Walnut Creek and San Leandro. They returned in 1959 to Ogden. She worked for many years as company secretary for her husband’s businesses. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, Joy served in all auxiliary organizations, including as Relief Society president of the Ogden 74th (Forest Green) Ward and on the Relief Society boards of the Weber Heights and Burch Creek Stakes. She had been a faithful visiting teacher since 1959 and for many years worked with the Family Record Extraction Program of the Church. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving as record- UTAH BUSINESS cont. from page 1 who were studying English as a second language. She also served as principal of Canyon View for eight years and was named Principal of the Year by the District. She also served as the district’s student services director. In addition to her Board Chair position with America First Credit Union, she has also served as a board member of NUAMES (Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering & Science) and on the Children’s Justice Center board. She was also honored as a “Community Champion for Children” by McKay Dee Hospital. The Utah Business article states, “Throughout the downturned economy, Linda Carver says she’s proud to have maintained high morale and avoided layoffs at both the Weber School District . . . and at America First Credit Union, where she serves as chair of the ing secretary for Weber County Far South Company and in various positions with Camp Sego Lily Far South Center Company. She served as president of the Ogden Lady Lions Club and supported other charitable causes. Joy was actively involved in family history, serving as secretary and treasurer of the Belnap Family Organization for several decades. She enjoyed compiling family history albums for each of her children’s families and writing the life stories of her Mormon Pioneer ancestors. She loved solving crossword puzzles, reading books, particularly British history and LDS Church books, and going on long drives with her husband. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Alan Leslie Belnap; and her sister, Marion L. Pine. She is survived by her former husband, Gordon; sons Steven A Belnap of Clearfield, Brian Lee (Karen) Belnap of Liberty, and Brent Jay (Lorinda) Belnap of New York City; ten grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Ryan, Rachael, David, Caroline, Christopher, Spencer, Rebecca, and Nathan Belnap; brother-in-law Joe C. Pine, Montgomery, Alabama; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 7 at the Weber Heights Stake Center/Forest Green Ward, 1401 Country Hills Drive. Interment at the Ogden City Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Mount Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center and CNS Home Health and Hospice for their kindness to their mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Temple Patron Assistance Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of latterday Saints. He did all the right things for all the right reasons,’ she says. “Carver also loves travel. She has been to every state and territory, as well as many countries.
