Terrace Plaza Playhouse Announces Auditions for Pirates of Penzance Terrace Plaza Playhouse, 99 E. 4700 S., Isabel, another sister, 16-25. Photos by Kimberlee Kelson of Eden. Ogden, will hold auditions for their production of Pirates of Penzance on June 2, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. For the audition, please prepare 16 measures of an upbeat operetta-style song. Piano, CD player, and iPod dock, will all be available for use. Roles for the play are available for those ages 16 and up. The roles of Pirate King and Ruth have already been cast. Roles open for audition include the following: Mabel, very much a young woman of the 19th century. This character’s age is between 17 and 20. Frederic, young, manly, genuine, and an innocent. Age, about 21 (tenor). Major-General, Male “Queen Victoria” in sensibility, 50-ish in age (baritone). Samuel, the king’s right-hand man, not awfully bright, 16-50 in age. Edith, daughter, proper, young, snappy, 16-25. Kate, Mabel’s sister, proper, pleasant, bright, 16-25. The sergeant, gangly police captain, stiff yet agile, 20-50. Daughters, many and varied, 16-50. Pirates & police, many and varied, 16-50. Wacky, irreverent, and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, Pirates of Penzance spins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters, and an eccentric Major-General—all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty. Pirates of Penzance will run August 10 through September 15, 2012 on Friday, Saturday, and Monday evenings. The play is being Directed by Jacci Florence. For more information, you may call the playhouse at 801-393-0070. On May 16, Valley Elementary’ s third-grade students inspired an audience who came to see the performance of an ensemble of patriotic music and short talks. At time the music was foot-tapping and rousing; at others, reverent and inspiring. Overall, both the program and the students’ performance were excellent.
