Drienie Hattingh and Lynda Scott, the editors and authors who brought readers Tales from Huntsville, Eden, Liberty and Beyond… are launching their second book Friday, June 1—Tales from Two-Bit Street and Beyond… Part I. Please join Hattingh and Scott and the other authors, for art by Al Perry, live music by SugarTown Alley and, of course, the launch of their new book, at Ogden’s Union Station’s Gallery 51 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The book will be available at a special launch price. Tales from Two-Bit Street and Beyond is a compilation of 13 spooky and ghostly stories by a variety of, primarily, local authors—five from Eden, three from Ogden, one from Layton, and two from Salt Lake City with others from St. George and San Francisco. The scary and often haunting stories center around Ogden’s Historic 25th Street and neighboring Union Station, and are based on true events that transpired in this rich area of Ogden back in its notorious heyday. Eden writers contributing to the book include Hattingh, Rod Cohen, Wendy Toliver, Kera Fuller Erickson, and Sandee Drake. An introduction to the book was written by acclaimed nationally renowned New York best-selling author Susan Squires. She writes, “One story reminded me of an Edgar Allan Poe tale involving bootleggers and the tunnels under 25th street. Another was a tone poem evoking everyday life in the late nineteenth century, when Ogden was one of the roughest towns west of the Rockies. In several stories the modern residents of Kids… the restored historic district get surprising glimpses of its less reputable past. And in some cases, the scandalous former residents push into the present, whether they are wanted or not. Not all ghosts are evil, and there are also some touching encounters that result in the rescue of lost souls. “These stories present plenty of twists and turns to keep you turning pages. But they also give the reader a unique look at a single place through many incarnations. 25th Street is a living character in this anthology. We see it in its violent youth, its seedy downfall, and its resurrection as the historic center of a vibrant present. . . . [i]f you like to feel that shudder of an encounter with the supernatural course down your spine, you’re going to love being introduced to 25th Street and its inhabitants, both real and ghostly . . . .” Tales from Two-Bit Street and Beyond… Part I will be out on shelves June 2. Look for this rich must-read at Planet Rainbow, Wisebird Bookery, Queen Bee and Hastings, and at many other retail centers where books are sold, including places in Eden, such as Valley Market, Mad Moose Café, Eden Coffee and Cocoa Company, Chic Style, and Alpine Pizza.
