Show Page 12 The Ogden Valley news Volume XX Issue III March 1, 2012 High Altitude Field Trip to Post Office On February 10, High Altitude Pre-school students went on a field trip to the Eden Post Office. Ogden Valley Recreation Baseball Registration Begins Boys Baseball and Girls begin the first week of June after school is out. Softball registration is now being accepted through March 31, 2012. Registration forms can be picked up at Valley Elementary and Snowcrest Jr. High. Starting in Mid-April, baseball teams will travel to other communities for their games. Baseball/softball practice is usually held once a week. The days the game will be played in each division will be announced at a later date. Fees for all divisions are listed below: Girls Softball 4th grade (9-10) through 9th grade (13 – 15): $48 Boys Baseball 4th grade (9-10) through 9th grade (13 – 15): $48 Co-Ed T-Ball, Coach Pitch, & Machine Pitch ages 4- to 8-years old: $42 Boys & Girls T-Ball, Coach Pitch, and Machine Pitch registration for 4-year olds (prekg) through 3rd graders will also be held March 31. Their fee will be $42. League play will Play will be at the Huntsville Town Park and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices will be held once a week until the games start. Please mark on your application if you choose to coach, assist the coach, or volunteer as a team parent. Remember, our organization depends on our volunteer coaches. To all the basketball coaches who volunteered their time during most of the winter season, I want to express my deepest gratitude. DEW Tour Photos by Dennis Montgomery Justin Rague of Eden Wins Area Referee of the Year Award Justin Rague, Tournament Date Change - Assuming we Region Referee A d m i n i s t r a t o r, Advanced Referee Instructor, and Area Director of Referee Instruction recently captured the Area Referee of the Year award in Las Vegas, Nevada at a section meeting. Special thanks went to his sisters Alexis and Roanna for being a dedicated three-referee team, for their dedication to the players and the game, and for traveling anywhere they are needed from Brigham City to Cottonwood Heights for tourJustin Rague naments and extra games. Volunteer Recognition Event Slated - To thank all of our AYSO volunteers, an event is being hosted in April to recognize volunteers. Updates can be found at <www.ayso422.com> When Will the Soccer Season Begin? - Soccer will begin when the fields dry out enough to play comfortably without damaging the fields. Updates on starting dates will be posted on the website starting mid-March. The Winter DEW Tour Toyota Championships were held at Snowbasin on February 9-12. Help Needed to Fill the Following Vacancies Tournament Director - There is currently a need for a Tournament Director. There is really not much to do as a tournament Director; however, if someone cannot be found to assist in this position, the 19th annual tournament will have to be canceled. We have all of the information and the necessary timelines; there just needs to be a go-to person. Regional Registrar - Thank you to Stefanie Wardley for volunteering these past few years! Coach Administrator - Like to stay in touch with people and help them know when training is available? Be a coach administrator! Brian Rague is now Advanced Coach Instructor and cannot fill both positions. Responsibilities include making a few calls each season to coaches to remind them of upcoming training events. She has traveled to, and lived in a number of places around the world with her Navy JAG husband Mark Ferrin. She has taught school in Utah, as well as in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Germany. She has also volunteered as a den mother and merit badge counselor, and is the mother of four Eagle Scouts. She has also served as president of the board of directors for the Centennial School program, President of the PTA at both Snowcrest Junior High and Weber High School, and has been a lobbyist for 20 years, and a member of the Utah State Board of Education. She is currently a member of the Weber Board of Education. She also serves in her congregation as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her application for Mother of the year, Ferrin stated that from her children, she has learned how to listen, watch, and be there and to discern. She also stated, “We never know what our limits are if they are not challenged. Being a mother leaves no area of life untouched. . . . Sleepless nights, a husband on a business trip, and sick children have taught me to be very grateful of ordinary days.” Other Mothers of the Year from Utah who have been honored in 2012 are Cynthia Richards (Orem), who was selected to represent Utah in Washington D.C. at the National Mother of the Year Convention. She is married to Claude Richards, and is the mother of 8, and grandmother of 33. Alice Smith of Ogden is married to David Leon Smith, and is the mother of 9, and grandmother of 15. Debbie Taylor (Orem) is married to Norman Taylor, and is the mother of 8. Also selected from Orem was Suzanne Mann, mother of 4. Representing Tremonton, Millie Bess was also selected as a Mother of the Year. She is married to Noel Bess, and is a mother of 9. Finally, Shelly Locke of Logan was also selected; she has 2 daughters. The four Young Mothers of the Year from Utah for 2012 are Cashell Carr of West Jordan, Lori Conger of Logan, Anastasia Narjarian of Bountiful, and Michelle Stone of Salt Lake City.
